Rattle Can Refinish Club

I'm building a bass "on the cheap".
I'm doing the finish myself(starting to regret it).
Has anyone come across this? See pictures.
This "bubbling" happened after I sprayed the first clear coat on the color.
I had this happen the first time. I actually called Rustoleum's support number to make sure these two products were compatible.
They assured me they should be fine together. I was told to wait 48 hours after spraying the last coat of color before spraying the clear coat.
Which I did. Then it happened again. Last thing I want is to deal with this on the body
I would appreciate any input

Oh god...you bring back memories....happened to me many a time

If at first you don't succeed, try try...well you know :banghead:

I have used water base Varathane Ultimate Poly gloss for a couple projects now, it CAN be wetsanded with water after about 24 hours of cure, probably less, but better safe than sorry. The first time i chickened out and used Naptha to wetsand, which worked great but it's... lighter fluid. So Flaming Death always an option. Just finished wetsanding a P-Bass refin with Varathane, so far so good.

Color is EasyCare Premium Decor Daffodil Yellow gloss. Clear is Varathane Premium water based gloss. First time I've used either brand. The color took several days to cure but covered decently. I like Krylon and Rust-Oleum better. I love the Varathane clear though. No smell and nice coverage. Quick drying and easy sanding. My clear coat of choice now.
This was my best attempt at a refinish yet.

I used this for the first time in the above project. I noticed that it went on pretty well, and after a day or so tit leveled itself pretty well too. I only used two medium coats. I got some runs with the first one but it sanded out easily. I really like this stuff

I'm on a roll! I still have to work during this time (essential employee) but since everything is closed there's nothing to do. Fortunately, for some reason, our state seems hardware and auto parts store a "essential" as well, so guitar refinishing supplies are still available, and weather is nice! So here's project #2 in progress...View attachment 3758823

Haha! thanks for that..I got a good belly laugh out of that. Kermit was always one of my faves. I think I know what I'll call this bass now!

Any time I see a high chroma lime/new leaf green I call it "Kermit the frog green". :) That or Kawasaki green!
