Ready for the Ice Storm ?

Big nothing burger here in my part of WNY.... maybe 2", not enough to fire up the plow truck for.
About a half inch of ice, then an inch+ of sleet, then a couple inches of snow on top of that. The sidewalk steps are a 45-degree ice-slide:

My employer declared a snow day for us, which was a very good idea. We got above the freezing point for a while today and are getting some sunshine, to melt the stuff off of my path out of the valley where I live. I just returned from walking up the road to check, and sure enough, it is clear enough to get traction and make an escape.

It's over here. Weather guys say the wind gusts may cause more power outages as wind may cause limbs to finally drop on power lines. By 6pm those winds will subside.
No power outage here in the hood. Sun came through the clouds for a couple hours and It was around 31 degrees. Enough to thaw a bit of the ice on power lines and limbs. I noticed the lines out front dripping while I was shoveling the sidewalk. I guess it helped.

Woah. Our high temperature for tomorrow is predicted to be five whole degrees.

Currently running higher than predicted at 33F.
This is what happens when we have sustained low temps; AKA winter, something which has been rare in my neck of the woods these last few years in a place were I had to tend to the outside animals as a child and had to dump ice blocks out of their water buckets more times than not on winter mornings before I took off for school. Anywho, sometime later today I’ll take out about half and add beans to it for my friends not from Texas.

I don't think we're going to get above freezing today, but we're getting full power from the sun (no clouds). I took a run at the hill out of our valley this morning but did not make it. I got halfway up, then had to turn around in the road to head back home for another day off. Today's sunshine on the blacktop should enable me to make a safe ascent in the morning. We shall see. Enjoy that chili! 
No beuno, worse than I thought. A solid inch of ice on the bottom - it laughed at the snowshovel:
and even getting down to the bottom with the square shovel was difficult.
At least those steps are level/safer (still covered in ice):
No way I'm going to try to clear the hillside gravel driveway with tractor w/3-Py grader blade today. It's not supposed to get above freezing until the weekend. At least I have plenty of LPG/heat, electricity, and Beer, I'm going to be here for a while....

Try chopping chunks if the ice up with your spade. That's what I did. Broke it up in pieces. Then I pushed it where I wanted it with an aluminum coal scoop followed by a push broom for the smallest pieces.
Kind of like this guy with his fancy shovel. Except with a one handle scoop.

Been there, done that, under more favorable driving conditions...
Not bad now. Only about a quarter mile of non plowed road. Just got back and coffee is brewing as I type !
Coffee is a very essential (and tasty) fluid.
We did get above freezing and the sun shone all day. I believe that I'll be able to get some work in tomorrow.
