Ready for the Ice Storm ?

Current temp here in Toronto is 14F and a wind chill of 9F. I went out to take the dog for a walk, forgot my coat! No problem, the sun is shining and we have virtually no snow.
I guess all this crap missed us!

That's about the same weather here where we are. Zero ice, blazing sun, howling wind, and frigid temps. Minus the wind, this is the weather for me.

Forecast here for Friday was 1-3". No big deal but now they upped it to 3-6".

Followed by 6 day too cold to thaw much. Then, unless it changes. Three days of high 30's to low 40's.

The side/subdivision roads are going to have packed down ice and re-frozen slush on them well into February if the extended forecast is correct. It's already level with the curbs.

There are a few youtube "forecasters" predicting more major scale storms with ice but they are probably just ckick bait.

NOAA isn't predicting anything of the sort.

If it snows a lot more so be it. Just hold off on the dang ice lol

Trmp hit 35F today and most of the day the ceiling was a solid gray mass that appeared to be low enough to touch if you stood on tippy toes. I had work to do outside, but conditions out there were unacceptable for work on anything short of an emergency and none of what needs done rises to that level. Spent most of the day napping between short periods of watching random crap on YT. It’s the first time in a while I didn’t do a thing all day but vegetate in front of the tube, nap, and made a turkey on wheat with a short glass of 2% for lunch. Not having dinner because that would require at least digging out some leftovers and heating them up. I’ve got the energy, but after a day of complete sloth, I’m not going to ruin it by engaging in something even remotely industrious. Maybe tomorrow will be more productive; or not. Early forecast said things should get warner come Thursday, but an update today said snow and ice likely before Monday. Yee Haaaaa

NOAA isn't predicting anything of the sort.

I’ve found Meteoblue forecasts to be more accurate for my location than the more granular forecasts.

I’m worried for the Helene survivors in WNC who are living in tents. There aren’t many, but one is too many.

6 " snow already in my front yard. Ice moving in about an hour from now. Only .02" an hr ice forecast but for 5 hrs or so. Then returns tonight.
.5- 1" forecast.

I made it down & up the driveway today - my brother was surprised to see me at my desk. PO wasn't plowed - needed 4WD to get out of their parking lot with my mail (& up my driveway)! I'm in the heavier side of the 0-2" expected Th eve into Fr morn - good thing I rarely go in on Fridays....

While it was mild compared to other places, this is what I woke up to yesterday morning. I was in hibernation mode and couldn’t even muster the energy to do much more than open the door and take a few pics. There is a road running between the bush and the tree on the right.

That was a potential concern in our area. Maybe the only silver lining about Hurricane Helene is that many weak trees were already taken down which might have otherwise affected the powerlines.

While we have not been watered since Saturday night, overcast skies have pretty much left all but what managed to run off into lakes ponds and streams, in the ground, which has been basically frozen since Monday afternoon. It’s a balmy 12 degrees F as I write this. We are not supposed to get above freezing until tomorrow afternoon and only for a brief period before sundown brings the return of Mr. Frost and his all ice review. While it sounds bad, I’d bet the roads, at least the main thoroughfares, are dry and all but a few of the secondary roads as well. That said, I’m going to listen to the local country station and see what they have to say about it before I consider venturing out.
