Double Bass Realist under treble foot, blended with what?

In your case look at the fit between bottom of the leg sitting on the top of the adjuster and the adjuster top. Make sure that is square. It can sometimes wobble off kilter when the bridge top tilts one way or another. Make sure it is square with the adjuster top and the tailpiece side of the bridge is perpendicular to the table. That lineup assures even preasure through the pickup down into the table.

Oh yea and make sure you see some thread of your adjusters. The foot should not touch the upper adjuster wheel anywhere. For those of you who are threads up the bridge top leg shouldn't touch the wheel.

I am on drugs. The fit is in fact flush. Everything else is as you describe - Bottom of bridge is perpendicular, and there is about 1/8" of thread showing. I did notice that the wheel is not absolutely centered with respect to the bridge leg, but I don't know if that would be a factor.

Again, I am not really looking for a "natural" or "mic-like" sound. I guess I want it to have some thump and low-mid punch and growl, but not the nasal upper mids or clacky string noise.

I won't rule it [ Rev SOLO ] out until I've tried it, but several testimonies I read put it more in the "mic-like" category. Plus, the low output thing is a drawback for me. Still, it's a possibilty.

I think I understand the comments you may have heard about the SOLO being “mic-like,” as far as pickups go that is. I will say the only time I am disappointed with the way mine sounds is when I A/B it with the AMT.

But I guess what I meant was maybe if you tried the SOLO and dumbed down the treble EQ a little, you might get a nice thump and low-mid punch.

As far as “growl” goes, the SOLO is okay. Although I don't use it anymore, I think my Bass Max was slightly better sometimes at handling the blossom of longer notes, esp. on the D and G. But frankly, neither pickup really captures the nice big bloom of the E and A strings for me as well as I'd like.

As far as the p/u performing okay in higher volume situations, I would say generally speaking the SOLO s.b. no problem.

Anyway, I just thought you might really dig the RS. Seems like Adrian Juras, hdiddy and others have been chiming in recently in other threads with some good information and positive impressions. I had a fellow bass player compliment my tone and ask about mine just last night.

I hope they are good drugs. I don't think the centering issue is a huge deal. Sounds like you've got the good install. I'm curious to hear how the realist or the rev solo sounds on your bass. Keep us posted.

Will do. Thank you and marco bolo for your comments - it's all helpful. It may be a while before I get it all figgered out, but I'll surely revive the thread when I do.

A friend uses a Realist on his beautiful Morelli. However, the Realist sounds too dark / muddy by itself, so he blends in a little Fishman BP-100. I wouldn't have thought of this, but it sounds incredible.

Anybody have success with this? I keep clipping amps when I pull the E string. I think im gonna try it.

Although I can't see any reason why you couldn't put it under the G, my sense was that the Realist was originally designed to be placed under the E since that would place it in close proximity to the bass bar. I fairly certian that's why they put it there in the original design prototypes.

That is my suspicion about it being designed to be on top of the bass bar. I had it under the treble foot briefly, but it sounded thin and unfocused. Sound under bass foot is usable, but the bass is not seeing a lot of action these days so I'm off the experimental bent for a while.
