i was playing the k5 the other day and i noticed how thin the neck and how low the action of the bass is. even the esp b1004 couldnt beat it. are there any other basses which are faster than the ibanez soundgear series?

didnt know that fender made basses with fast necks. i borrowed a mexican deluxe jazz for a song from a friend and it was anything but fast. killed my left hand. i started hating fender from that day

The Ampeg AMB-1 is insanely fast. The neck is very thin front-to-back, and is only 30" scale. You can fly up and down that board.
I think a shallow neck and low action are not the only contributors to fast basses. Different instruments are somehow, easier on your fingers and feel 'light' somehow. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it's the ease with which a note is plucked or slapped.

Yeah, it's great, it's got a Stingray-type pickup and nice woods. It's pretty hard to find one, though, honestly- I only mentioned it because it's so fast.
My fastest bass isn't the one with the thinnest neck. It isn't about how thin a neck it, it is how well the neck feels in your hand.

i dunno from personal experience i find that after all the dozens of basses ive owned, im fastest and most comfortable on a 70's style jazz neck, maple board, 7.25 radius, 1.5 nut width, and low action. im pretty fast on the 62 style as well but im at home on my 75 reissue jazz bass. i used to be a p bass man but now im a jazz player.
To me it's all about the neck's action. I prefer a meduim-low setup. If I have that, it really doesn't matter what type or brand of bass I'm playing.

The Fender Performer has the thinnest, fastest neck I've ever played. Of all the basses I've owned, the Hamer Cruise has the fastest neck. It's funny because I got my first one simply to collect. It ended up being my main player, and now I've gotten the second one for just that reason.
Fastest necks I've ever had in my hands to actually play were the Pedulla MVP-4 and Vigier Passion 4-string. The Geddy was almost as fast as those, for me.
Music Man sterling. Slim neck, great fretwork so you can get low action, nice oil and wax finish.
