I'm looking to buy a compressor pedal to compliment my Sterling Ray 34. In a 100-150 budget what would be my best buy for slap bass? I also play metal and want to get my high strings to not be lost

Reasonably priced compressor?

I play metal and recommend the MXR Bass Compressor (M87?). It's about that used, and it keeps a steady volume switching between fingerstyle and pick. Visual meter as well to see how much compression is going on, and evens out my tone when I dig in so I don't have notes obnoxiously (and out of place) notes. Very transparent too. Used with an OD/Distortion so it gets an even signal and doesn't distort unnecessarily. Some say it's unnecessary, but I like it that way for my dynamics. Keeps soft parts audible and heavy parts from being overbearing.

For slap and metal on a budget it's hard to beat the Boss LMB-3.
Since you particularly mention wanting to not lose the highs, see if you can find a Seymour Duncan Doubleback.

I have an ebs multicomp and I like it. Might be a little over you're price range but you could maybe find one used within it

This may seem a bit out in left field, but the comps are great in the new Zoom MS-60B.

+1! I had one of these and it was awesome. It was just too big for my pedal board, but it was seriously an amazing budget compressor!
This might sound like a stupid question, but would a digitech compressor/sustainer for guitar work with bass?

It depends which specific Digitech pedal you mean, because they've made a few, but in general you'd be better off with something else.

Okay, so I've narrowed it down to 2 choices, The Boss LMB-3 and the Zoom MS-60B. The zoom seems pretty cool, having multiple effects on one pedal, but how do the compression settings compare to the boss?
