recent thread about winning Lotto and Basses ... my experience ..!

not to many folks bothered me ... constantly driving from OH to FLa frequently the first several years ... !

after getting thru the ' buying crap , and kinda enjoying showing off said crap ' ... i don't feel i've really changed that much ..!? i do prefer quality toilet paper ..!!

since June , i'm playing with some friends from high school ... 1 guy i was in club bands with for several years ...
they do some stranger acoustic mostly 50/60 stuff ... 1 acoustic gtr mostly , and 4 singers ... they've been at it 25 years . I recorded and played a CD for them when we were back up here in 2000 .. i asked if i could sit in with them kinda in the background and just 'do my thing ' ... which is - play what ever i want = bass , acoustic bass , elec/acoustic gtr , keys , ... sing/play a few songs myself ... no rehearsal, just jump in and go ... which thus far , has worked pretty well and has been well received by their regulars ( who i mostly know ) ... in my mind , i'm mostly there to entertain them ( the band ) ..!! and bring some new life & variety to their act ...

i have been asked to play in a couple bands ... but for starters ... i think i'm going to work on a Duo with a gtr player /singer i worked with previously .. he lives nearby , just retired from day job .. ( his brother won the OH lottery a year before i did ..! back when i was in a band with him ) ... i'll play bass/ key bass- keys , whatever , drum machine , vocals ... with a few gadgets and some for thought , it could be fun ..! it will be stuff We wanna play , so that helps a lot .. ! i'm working on figuring out a new keyboard and drum machine now . And trying to get my keyboard bass chops back up to speed . ( been a while )

not a lot of crazier lotto type crap the last decade-ish ... several hot hatchbacks ( dog ) ... nothing to neck snapping ( wife's neck ) ... and i'm living more like a normal retired person on a kinda fixed income . ( fix by me ... ha ) ... we've been to most destinations we wanted ... just chillin and enjoying our little family , as in spoiling our dog -
Reggie ... a bone headed , high energy , very goofy and entertaining , 4.5 yr old Red Merle Australian shepherd ...

right now , we're still trying to sell the house in FLa ... that will free up some change ..!! and get some bucks back into the portfolio ... ( then Sweetwater will visit more often ..!! )

don't be shy ... go ahead and download my Xmas CD ... it's good background holiday stuff ... instrumentals ..! it really doesn't suck that bad ..!

i really like the Ashdown pre ... tried many pres , racks/pedals over the decades ... for me , this works great .!

also the extra " input w/ level control " is handy for one gig i do ...

i do wish the signal ran thru the tube all the time .. ! but it's only used for the Drive section ... so i'm trying to use the drive at a very low level so i can leave it on for adding some tube warmth ( versus OD ) ... it is affected by the input gain as well ..

the adapter plug input is in a rather silly place ... left side towards the front ..?? there is nothing else on either side .?

you can't play games changing out various !2ax7 type tubes ,... ashdown says it doesn't quite work that way in this circuit ...

the Master output volume only effects the 1/4 out ... not the XLR DI ( which might be normal .? i forget )

it does Mute when the right side button ( showtime - ha ) is pushed ... there's a red led by the tube when it's ON .. plus a blue led on the other side when the Drive is ON ...

headphone output is very good ... works as a practice tool also ..

not a lot of excitement lately ...!? maybe it should be expected 25 yrs after winning the lotto ... heck , i rarely play any more ... maybe when i fill up the boring SUVs .. ha

i have surprisingly found some flatwounds that i really like ... Rotosound 77 ( SM77 - 40,60,80,100 set )
sound really good , thick and funky ... feel a tiny bit stiff , but OK ... good feel to both hands/fingers ... at not a bad price ..!

slightly melancholy this holiday season ... birthdays for wife and myself this month , my folks anniversary ,... all firsts since my fathers' passing this summer ... kinda new feelings for mom and myself this year ... and our first Aussie - Rascal ( RIP ) birthday is in a couple days .. sorry , not trying to whine ... guess i should just and write a sad mellow tune to help ' get it out ' ..!!??

here's a rather boring tune i wrote when my grandmother passed ... ( mistakes and all )

I've lost everyone over time, my dad when I was 19, grandparents, buried a wife in 2005. It eases, but you never forget. I can only tell you what I learned:

If it was up to me, they'd still be here. But it's not up to me. So all we can do is carry on as they would have us do, and trust in faith that this is all working to a plan we will never know, but have faith that it is.

That's the only way I've gotten through them all.

Wild! Good for you! Born and raised in Youngstown/Boardman! Not thaaat far :laugh:

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. It's much better to see it here on TB rather than on television "Winning the Lottery Ruined My Life". Sounds like you handled instant wealth well.:thumbsup:

If you'll excuse me, I have some Christmas music to check out.

The run up to Christmas is a bit of a melancholy time for me, it will be 20 years in a few days since I lost my wife. I try and think about the good times as I know the last thing she would have wanted was me brooding over it.

I have a couple of photos of her that really lift my spirits when I'm down. One is her dancing on her favourite beach at 7AM, so it was deserted (she loved that one). The other is her in the garden on one of the fairly rare UK summer days when you could wear shorts and tee shirt without shivering (she hated that one because her tee shirt was a bit short and showed some midrif).

No shortage of good people who experience more melancholy than joy this time of year, similarly due to loss or having awful childhood memories.

If the loss of your grandmother is much of what inspired that moving piano number, then you've managed to channel your grief into something utterly unique and truly beautiful :angel: Its incredible!

The world turns and the living go on here as the natural order of parental death is unavoidable. If we're lucky we've not lost a child (you seem lucky in more ways than one :)), but knowing that is only a small comfort when you miss those people. I hope you find true inner Peace this season and always with memories of them, as well as the future ones you'll make from today onward.

I enjoy reading of your adventures here, and thank you for sharing them with us.
