Recommend a Pre Pedal?

Hey all, I'm using a small mixer for my pre, for logistical reasons mostly. I would like to find some kind of pedal to Tweak mids and fatten up sound.

I'd like to be able to dial in a bandwidth of mids (like 200 Hz for instance) to cut an annoying frequency. Some kind of 'beef' switch would be cool too, to just fatten it up a bit.

It could be a small rack-mount unit, but something like a half-rack would be better, if it's not a pedal. I need to be able to mount it on a small stand if necessary... my mixer is on a mic stand, and I have a "Claw" I modified and jigged to hold other appliances.

I don't need to try and make my ss power amp sound like tubes per se; I just want to give it some heft and a bit of mids control. Thanks for any useful advice!

In terms of specific frequency cutting, the Empress para EQ is going to be one of your better bets. If you're on a tighter budget than that there are half (or third) rack para EQ's by ART and Presonus that work fine. In fact I think I saw someone selling an ART half-rack tube para EQ in the classifieds here just recently, and I had one of those, and it is the fattest EQ I've ever heard.

For general fattening you might look into the Electronix Submarine, the Fulltone Fat Boost, and any of the products by DHA. In fact DHA has a model with EQ that would be the killer deal for fattening anything- but the EQ is not designed for surgical cutting.

Say, I have an Ehx Big Muff that's been recently modded for bass. It still needs a true-bypass, which I can get done, but I wonder if, at some low-impact setting, it would do a reasonable job of boosting/hefting up a signal? I've been offering it in trade for a Sansamp- I've approached some folks whom I noted were selling a sansamp BDDI- but maybe this'll do an acceptable job.

Are you looking to lose the mixer or add to it?

I like the Fishman Platinum Pro DI, but I am sure there are also a lot of good options with Parametric mids. I use a Bergantino IP112 for my church rig with the Fishman unit mounted on my mic stand with one of these

My sound is more about full, round, and smooth than sparkly or bright, but I like it.

The Sansamp would probably be OK, but you may be happier with the Paradriver than the regular BDDI.

The eventuality is I that I want to add to the mixer- so I can have 2 or 3 basses plugged in ready to switch easily mid-set. A small mixer is also just a handy thing to have around for recording, etc.

The "Claw" mic attachment pretty well accomplishes what your little table there does, only your table is a little handier I suppose. Nice though.

I'm also about the full, solid and round thing, with a little detail or whatever in there. Bright ain't me... everyone says so.

At this point I'm sending off to a TB'er for an ART tube EQ. I wonder if that'll even take care of the whole mess...
