Recommend me a backup bass!

SR505 has narrow string spacing. Getting one with wide spacing will take some getting used to. The Ibanez SR405EQM looks pretty sweet, will give you a different look / sound than the 505, but likely will feel similar as far as playability. That having been said I haven't tried it.

I like the G&L L2500 Tribute and Ibby SR505 suggestions. The G&L electronics give you a wide variety of options. How about a Sire V7? I also bought a Lakland DJ5 Skyline for around that kind of money here on TB. Great inexpensive 5er. But I tend towards J-style basses, maybe you do not. EDIT: oops, the Sire is a 34" scale.

I had a Squier VM Jazz 5 for a while but I found that the neck was a 2x4 even for my big hands. A good bass though. Try out a Yamaha TRBX305, it should fit the bill for your requirements and the neck should feel familiar. Comes in red, white, a minty sort of green and the "B" color.

Whether intentional or not, your criteria has summoned Mothman. This checks all your boxes.

OP:
The SR series is 34" scale, so not long. Standard.
And the string spacing is very tight, not wide.
I'm just curious why, if you like the SR505 so much, your post indicates you're looking for something wholly different than the 505.
My money would be on snagging another 505, or something else in the family. 305, 405, 375.

Check out the ESP LTD B5-E, I have one and its great. Mahogany body, ebony top and fingerboard. Active electronics, through neck, and a solid low B. One can be had with a good gig bag for under 700 from guitar center with their presidents day sale.
