Another vote for the G & L L2500 Tribute. Its not the same wood and workmanship as the Fullerton made bass, but the design and pickups are the same.

Killer basses. Honestly the Tribute sounds the same as the US version (I've owned both). But, I will stress, the string spacing is not wide. But the damn things are just so playable . . .Funny you should mention that, a local shop had an M2500 that I really enjoyed. May have to look into the l2500...
I use a PV foundation 5 (passive) as my backup. I like no battery. It's pretty decent at covering anything ... Not priceyMy trusty Ibanez Sr505 poopie the bed on me earlier this week. The bands I'm gigging with currently all require 5 strings, and this was my only 5'er :'( Obviously I'll be repairing the Ibby, but it's become apparent that I need a backup. I'm borrowing a friend's bass for the weekend, but it's very temporary and definitely not for sale.
Here's my criteria:
Must have 5 strings
Sub - $700 including case
Prefer active pups
Prefer longer scale length
Prefer wide string spacing
Brand doesn't matter
CAN NOT HAVE BLACK PAINT
Used or New - doesn't matter as long as it's readily available
Of course I have my eye on a few models already that meet these criteria, but perhaps the TB Hivemind knows of some options that I'm not considering!
Thanks for the suggestion, not a fan of that model though. Perhaps it's just the two that I played, but they seemed very 'small' in the hands, kinda hard to describe. How about a Yamaha TRBX505?

Not sure what/why youre asking TBs opinion(s) when you already have your eye on not only one but a few models that meet your criteria ! Just pick the one that comes closest to your main ax!
Just make sure they are the USA made versions. Easy to determine. The majority have a jazz pup in the neck and a MM in the bridge, with the active Cirrus electronics. Bolt on, 18v electronics.Hmmm... Haven't looked into the Millenium series. Any specific model years to look for / avoid?
You can pick up a used Spector Legend Classic 5 for about $400. I have one as a backup and it's very good. If you want, drop an Agular preamp in for about $200 and you can make it your main bass.My trusty Ibanez Sr505 poopie the bed on me earlier this week.
