Recommend me a chorus pedal ...

as the title states, I'm looking for some chorus recommendations. current rig. EBMM fretted and fretless stingrays, thunderfunk 550b going into 2 aguilar gs112's...morley aby, st-200 tuner, mxr bod, groove regulator...

I'm looking to add maybe an mxr carbon copy, and a chorus pedal...
the chorus will more than likely be for the fretless or at least have most of its time on the fretless...years ago i had a t.c. electronic scf...this time around i didn't like it, , , so i'm looking for suggestions...a nice smooth subtle chorus that doesn't lose the bottom is my goal...

My board is an MXR BOD, Groove Regulator, EHX BBM Pi, ANALOGMAN MINI CHORUS, and an MXR Carbon Copy. Freakish how good your taste is! Now, just pick up an Analogman chorus pedal (lots of different configurations available) and you'll be set. Mine is a mini with the internal fixed "deep" setting and has a blend knob. Spendy for sure, but the best, most lush chorus I've ever used. Good luck to you sir!

Forty-Six & 2 is a flanger. Boss BF-2 to be exact.

It always kind of annoys me that people recommend the analogman no matter WHAT kind of chorus sound someone is looking for. He didn't ask for a really lush chorus. He asked for smooth and subtle. That is not analogman or small clone (which the analogman is based on) to me. To me, smooth and subtle basically means the Boss choruses (especially the DC-2 or fromel remake) or maybe the single-voice mode of the Hardwire Chorus.

Wow, good thing I didn't recommend the Analogman to you! Have you seen the knobs on it? You can use those to dial in deep and lush OR subtle and smooth. Especially if you get the blend knob. Which I did. AND which I recommended. You know what annoys me? People that get annoyed for no good reason.:rollno:

If you don't want deep and swirly, in the 80's boss made the CE-3. It was sort-of their effort at the Stuart Copeland sound. the rate never gets humming, and it doesn't get really gushy-Leslie, but the bottom line is that its an all-analog chorus, with most of the desired chips. People say it isn't as "warm" as some, but i have a feeling most of them haven't actually heard it. It also does the wet-dry output thing and you can get them at extremely affordable prices.
Three caveats though:
  • Like many buffered-bypass older pedals, they can be tone suckers in bypass
  • They need the old-school 12V ACA type adapter, or run on a daisy chain with a modern pedal, the daisy-chain works around the adapter thing) or use a batt.
  • And I personally have never tried one on bass
But you can get them reasonably cheap enough to experiment.

bassplayer75 - I wish I had some clips from when I owned the AnalogMan Chorus - it can get pretty subtle.

The Analogman is known for lush, but I got subtle out of it easy enough with the internal "deep" setting and the blend knob options.

Only reason I sold it is the same reason I sold most of my pedals - Line 6 M9!

So there you are - high-end option and a more affordable option...

I have the Boss bass chorus pedal and the Danelectro Cool Cat (the old, 18volt one). Personally, I think the Danny sounds amazing! They both sound decent to me and they weren't too expensive. Good luck finding one of those old Dan-O's though...they're pretty scarce now.

I had the Cool Cat and it indeed sounds great, but I always thought it was very "wet" at almost any setting and not very subtle.
I'm using the MXR Stereo Chorus ATM, and find it does subtle very well-especially if you engage the HPF button and dial back the intensity.
