Recommend me a chorus pedal ...

Yeah, maybe I'm just used to older gear but I'm really not sure that a pedal is the best way to get a really subtle effect anyway (assuming the OP is about finding a subtle chorus effect). I think I'd almost recommend a digital, rack mount type unit. Something more sophisticated and controlable than a pedal. I don't claim to be any authority on bass effects to I could be way off...I'm just going off of what I have experience with. Pedals seem to color your sound one way or another whether they're engaged or not, IMO. Some claim "true bypass" but I haven't met a pedal that didn't leave some trace in the signal. Of course, I haven't played around with the high-end boutique pedals because I can't afford any of them (I'm married). :hiding:

The Maxon CS-9 has a great sound that can be subtle or deep. It sounds great with fretted or fretless. The only reason that I am trying to trade mine away is because I miss the sound of the Analogman Bi-Chorus that I used to own. I wouldn't say that the Analogman is better than any other chorus, but it's definitely a sound that I like.

I'd also recommend the Fromel Seraph, which is a BOSS DC-2 clone. It's definitely a shimmer-y 3d kind of chorus sound. Also, a slightly detuned sound like that from the POG, PitchFactor, and IIRC PS-3/PS-5 have on them.

+1000 on the Dano Cool Cat 18v, tbh I've never tried the 9v but the 18v was awesome, I replaced it with the Analogman because it was cooler and a less hissy but we're talking minute levels of hiss.

I'm interested to try the new EHX Neo Clone that could be a good cheap. Ultimately I just found I prefered phasers on bass over chorus.

As for subtle chorus, I don't know I always found all of it is pretty subtle in the mix and anything with a depth knob is going to be adjustable from subtle to hugely wet swirls.

I tried the Ibanez CS-9 and I would say thats defo more inline with the OP's request for a subtle chorus, compared to most of the recommendations here

Where I live stores don't sell analogman, so I'm looking for an alternative. What about the MXR Micro Chorus as mentioned earlier? I'm looking for a very subtle chorus to make a bass melody underneath a chord progression/bridge stand out in the mix. I'm considering buying a clean blend too, since I really want to keep the use of effects to a minimum and this should preserve the clean bass tone/low end as well.

The PGS demo shows that with the knob at minimum you get a very subtle effect, so I guess the pedal might sound good with the knob around 9 o'clock or lower.

Or do I need a flanger for that? or a phaser? I really don't know...

you might want to check out the EHX small clone for something subtle and analog. Definitely not over the top '80's type chorus. The cons are a volume drop when engaged and a slight pop when turned on, though.

It always kind of annoys me that people recommend the analogman no matter WHAT kind of chorus sound someone is looking for. He didn't ask for a really lush chorus. He asked for smooth and subtle. That is not analogman or small clone (which the analogman is based on) to me. To me, smooth and subtle basically means the Boss choruses (especially the DC-2 or fromel remake) or maybe the single-voice mode of the Hardwire Chorus.

+1. Some guys DO like it subtle, in fact many do. I would suggest the CEB-3 to them.

For subtle, In my experience I'd stay clear of the CE's. a good subtle boss chorus is the SUPER chorus CH-1. fun and dirt cheap.

I use an MXR stereo chorus and love it. it's anywhere from subtle to leslie-emulating and the 2 band EQ lets you sculpt the signal further. there's also a switch which allows low frequencies to pass unaffected and applies chorus only to high frequencies.

If you're not looking to spend about $100 used, then my vote is on the Micro chorus.

yes, i'm quoting myself, somewhat for comedic value. i love the t-rex sweeper but this damn thread started up gas for an analogman. i made the previous post last night, since then i've sold my sweeper and bought an analogman mini with deep mod. i am a terrible person.
