Recommend me a chorus pedal ...

don't know if you're an analog die-hard but with a little homework you can get a chorus with the MN3007 BBD chip. Might seem funny for a boutique guy to be reccommending a boss, but a good pedal is a good pedal. The buffered bypass isn't bad on the CE-5 and CH-1 analog either.

Together with the CE-5, the CH-1 underwent significant design changes October 2001. The CH-1s made after this time uses digital circuitry and surface mounted components while the older version uses an analog MN3007 BBD. The easiest way to determine which version you have is to use the serial number. If the second letter/first number combination is earlier than P1, you have the analog type. This also mean that all digital CH-1s will have a dark gray label.

I'm repeating myself, but I seriously suggest you look into the Boss DC-2 (discontinued), the Fromel Seraph, or hell even the Behringer clone (the CC-300). It is a very subtle, smooth chorus. It doesn't really do any warbly, watery stuff at all. It just sounds very spacious and has this strange 3D quality to it, even in mono.

Forty-Six & 2 is a flanger. Boss BF-2 to be exact.

It always kind of annoys me that people recommend the analogman no matter WHAT kind of chorus sound someone is looking for. He didn't ask for a really lush chorus. He asked for smooth and subtle. That is not analogman or small clone (which the analogman is based on) to me. To me, smooth and subtle basically means the Boss choruses (especially the DC-2 or fromel remake) or maybe the single-voice mode of the Hardwire Chorus.

Having owned the Hardwire chorus for a few weeks now, I vote for it. It isn't much of a "warbley" chorus, more of a "shimmer.". It's really subtle and actually sounds really great after my Groove Regulator and PorkLoin. I can post some clips of it if you like.
