Of late I'm doing a fair amount of studio sessions and I often want more low end response through the headphones. Sometimes engineers can accommodate me without affecting the recorded tone, but more often than not I'm told it's not possible. I have a pair of Sony MDR-7506, which have a decent lows, but would love to find a pair of similar quality with more heft. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

As much as it hurts my rather audiophile ears to say it, if you want humongous lows the Beats Dre are the answer.
They suck at pretty much anything else though.

+1... or just about any other set endorsed by a rapper... Not much for clarity, but you'll get low end...
a decent pair of isolation headphones will help you hear the low end more.
I've recently started using these for tracking, and they are really great!

I swear by the Audio-Technica ATH-M50's. Great isolation, good, even sound and goes pretty deep, but not subterranean depth. Check it out at Amazon they've got them for a great price. Beyer makes a very nice headphone, but it will be much more expensive.

+1. I have had a set of these for about a year now, and they are just good cans. I use them to catch the low end that my monitors (Equator D5s) don't quite catch and just for general listening.

I have a set of these that I use live and don't have a single complaint. Also I've never experienced any ear fatigue, where the head phones hurt my actual ears.

Shure 750dj. $100-$150 new. Light, comfortabe, portable, and great sound. The a/t m-50s may be good too. You should be fine with anything with a 50mm driver.

Those cans have a very natural and transparent sounding low-end and offer a pretty balanced mix. Plus they`re very comfortable.

Those Sony are not great for bass. The bigger model (7509) have a much better low frequency response. I also love the Senn HD 380 Pro for that matter.
These are really good cans with nice lows for twice the price. A little uncomfortable for long wears though.
Superlux HD681s... all the Superlux phones are a tremendous value, they get em from the same factory as Audio-Technica and their designs are all really good.
Just do a Goggle or Head-fi.org search on them, they're unbeatable for bass and recording monitoring for under $50.

I read the reviews on Head-fi and decided against them b/c everyone talked about good lows but piercing highs. I opted for the Monoprice cans for less.
How is the balance on these? If good for mixing and tracking, might have to give them a whirl.
I have AT-40fs cans that are pretty flat. Got a pair of Senn HD428s that I like. I need a bump in the bass or everything sounds too bassy after I mix.
Once the Superluxes settled in, the highs weren't noticeably crispy.
They have few different variants to all their phones for different types of voicing. My 681Bs have decent balance, they're good for the cash. I've heard really good things about the monoprice stuff as well.
