Recordings that use Bass VI, Baritones

I play for a modern country artist that covers "Fishin in the Dark" in his live set. I noticed the main lick sounds to me like it's done on a baritone, but I assume that I'm wrong?

What are some recordings that utilize the Bass VI style bass (EADGBe) or Baritone guitars (any tuning)? I'd like to maybe get a baritone and use it in this country project, so something along the roots rock/country/surf path, I'm not too interested in hearing baritones in metal as I've heard it quite a bit.

the cure - primary.
the fabulous thunderbirds - tuff enuff. with SRV on the danelectro 6. kind of a surf /blues thing that oddly enough sounds like an organ with a leslie.

there are some more obscure Cure tunes that use the baritone too ... Primary is just the most obvious example because they have 2 of them, and Simon playing the same on a 4. really powerful song.

The Beatles used a Fender VI on several later-period tunes. Also Dave edmunds on a Dano Longhorn 6 on "Information" and "Slippin' Away". Lots of early Hollies tunes have Fender VI.
While I own/have owned several 6-string basses I'm still looking for my "holy grail" a Gibson EB-6, preferably the solidbody version.

sorry - should have clarified that. i have, on VHS somewhere, prolly in my moms attic, the thunderbirds on both Austin City Limits and a special from MTV (back when they actually played music) with Stevie playing the low 6 @ both gigs.

WOOHOO!

literally 5 seconds on a youtube search and i find one!

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty certain Jon Spencer played some variant of baritone guitar on all the Blues Explosion Records.



(He's the lead singer, if you're not familiar with the JSBX)

Could you be so kind as to list those songs? I'm very interested.

BTW, do you know if "You Never Give Me Your Money" uses a Fender VI and a regular bass?

They sing the first verse with something that sounds like either a bass played on high strings...or a guitar with the treble cut big time. But on the second verse, you can definitely hear the "real" bass come in distinctly.

I've heard and read most of Robert Smith's parts on The Cure's album "Disintegration" were recorded with a Bass IV. Great album. Fascination Street, etc...

Fender has recently released a Baritone Tele that has my interest (I'm addicted to music and gear). Watch a demo of someone playing it really well.
