Here is my take on the P15 vs the REDDI. Have no dog in this hunt.
As a result of this thread I decided I wanted a tube DI. First choice was the P15 because of the reviews but mainly D/t the price so I PMed the guy who makes them and he promptly and professionally replied. He has a run of 15 being released and the will be in a few weeks and all are spoken for. He did offer to put me on the list and explained some people drop out when the time comes to finalize the order.
Waiting for something with the possibility of not getting it would drive me crazy so I respectfully declined. I am quite certain the P15 is a fine unit but in my opinion it essentially doesn't exist. (Yet.) Price no longer matters if you cannot buy it to fill an immediate need IMO.
I've waited 12+ months for custom built basses that actually exist,...
So given your experience, how much should the REDDI cost?
You stated in your OP that the parts were less than $300, with no IMO, etc. It sounds like you were wrong. I'm sure you were quick to acknowledge that.![]()
What about the Noble Preamp compared to a REDDI? it's been getting a lot of TalkBass, and it is expensive too!!
Must be great. They wouldn't charge a pittance for something that is great, right?
I heard it rocks from this guy that knows these other guys. You know... those other guys? They did that thing for that one thing somewhere not too long ago.
Lots of great gear played and endorsed by guys around here...In'nt there? You'd be an idiot to use something else.
There is also a sucker born every minute. Correlation?
It's always nice to find a product that you love.
You don't usually see folks griping about the high cost of tools of the trade. People line up to buy expensive basses and amps. Ever buy a high end microphone or other piece of studio gear? The prices are all pretty high. People set goals and strive to be able to afford what they want in life. If the cost can't be justified, they buy something else. Nothing wrong with that.
I don't see the point in trying to take away from something that others are proud to own.
Yep, the fight for the cheapest is characteristic of unending internet bottom-feeder brawls. Truth is, tour a top audio studio and witness drawer upon drawer, in room after room, of pro-grade gear ranging from vintage to re-issue to new: DIs, preamps, channel strips, microphones, amplifiers, etc. And, bargains can be had in acquiring that type of gear, but only if the buyer has knowledge to recognize it, and then knows how to use it.
Otherwise, cringe-worthy proclamations similar to, "I just bought an Asian Fodera for $500! It even has the butterfly," migrate to the amp forum. I suppose we should just accept it. The irony is, that in the grand scheme, many things deemed "too expensive," are really not that expensive. Go figure, especially in context of the saying, "The cheap becomes the expensive."
I firmly believe that everyone should live within their means. Some of us can afford nicer stuff, some of us can't. Been on both sides of that equation. But like I said earlier, the nice stuff won't make or break you as a player, but if you can afford it, why the heck not? That always seems to be the last bastion part of the argument for pro-expensive things people.

We finally have a name for those evil folk, yeah!
How much more pointlessly divisive can we get? Sheesh.
