REDDI, I'm a bit confused

Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound mean spirited toward you.
I am just confused by the concept.

Jim, thanks, but you never come across as mean-spirited to me. :)

In my view, based on my experience, conceptually and in practice, over-damping in audio is similar to overdoing some other things in audio: Make a recording studio control room too acoustically damped and it will sound lifeless (all the rage in the late 1970s, as I recall). By any means (compression, EQ, circuit refinement, etc.), remove all the unruliness from a desirable sound source and it will cease to be what you liked in the first place. And so on.

Perhaps the concept applies only to things whose raw sound is characterized by imperfection.

For example, in the aesthetic aspect of my vintage tube collecting (I collect for rarity or history, too, not just sound), I not only accept but specifically value the quirks and inefficiencies of particular tubes. Among 12AU7 and 12AX7, for instance, the storied "neutrality" of the audio produced by Telefunken, or the mind-crushing precision and headroom of La Radiotechnique, have no more aesthetic value or legitimacy for me than the characteristic '1950s black plate sound' exemplified by original manufacture by RCA, Sylvania, Raytheon, and Philco. I love to hear a pair of fine 1953 Sylvania 12AU7 in a home stereo preamp, straining and failing to reproduce the punishing dynamic range of a well-recorded symphony orchestra. It sounds so beautiful to me, and I would never want so-called refinement to replace it.

I think you "better" look up the word "verb."

nah..// I need to keep people like you busy ...Otherwise, you may have nothing else to do.:smug:
Sorry--that was directed at 10cc, not you, svtb15. I'm not very good at using the quote function, I guess. Anyway, I was agreeing with you, that his stating that the P15 was better than the Reddi was subjective, not fact-based, and not helpful. He countered by saying he was using "better" as a verb, which he literally wasn't, and which makes no sense even if he meant it figuratively. As for having nothing to do, I was just eating my meat loaf at my desk after a busy morning at work. Between my day job and band practice, I've got more than enough to do, believe me. I do like to peek at TB on my lunch break, though. Sorry if it looked like I was dissing you. I was trying to agree with you.

I meant it as a verb. As to better something.

I meant it as a verb. As to better something.

That's what I assumed, but looking at the post in question, I can't see how that makes any sense. You said

"Hands down the P-15 is better than the REDDI that's why I bought one. Sounds better, better price, looks better and better customer service.

If we had a clip comparing the two, everybody here would agree. Even the REDDI owners and then everybody would want one and Josh would raise his prices and then you'd be paying the same price for a P-15 as you would a REDDI and the P-15 would still sound better.
You can argue with me all you want about which one is better but your wrong."

I don't see you using "better" as a verb here anywhere. Which is fine, no need to be a grammar policeman, except you were claiming that as a way to deflect svtb15's valid criticism that you were just giving your subjective opinion with no real facts. And pretty aggressively and repeatedly, given that the op was asking about whether the REDDI was actually as good as the price and the buzz about it would suggest. Your first post opened by saying the REDDI was a ripoff (a pretty serious accusation), with no explanation or support for the statement. And then you say you've "seen" their customer service and don't like their "attitude," with no explanation or support, and from that point on you're just claiming over and over how much better the p15 is than the REDDI, to the point that reasonable people would logically conclude that you were either 1) shilling for the P15 or 2) had some personal grudge or vendetta against A Designs, which for all anyone knows could be because you asked for a discount or endorsement deal and got turned down, or god knows what else. It's only natural that somebody would ask for some facts to back up your opinion. Your dodge about using "better" as a verb just looks like you're trying to avoid getting pinned down. For the record, I don't own either DI's and probably never will. The argument is not even worth the time and effort to continue. You're welcome to have the last word. I'm going to bed.

I haven't chimed in on the other thread yet, but last weekend I listened to the clips on my home sound system and absolutely loved the Broughton, but it was very far from a flat sounding DI to my ears. I'd happily use it to as a flavour of preamp but would have to see how it sounded through a PA before knowing if it would be my choice for that application.

10cc did an amazing job on the clips, very useful for everyone.

I'm not even remotely interested in reading this kind of un-backed up arrogance. In fact, it's another vote for REDDI, AFAIC. Bad advertising for P-15. Dude, you need some REAL BIG IMHO. And it's 'you're wrong' not "your wrong". Sorry, but English is English and I have this thing for language...

Acronyms are a pretty lazy use of English ;)

1) Not to be rude but definitely to be blunt (necessary), 10cc sounds like a troll. Must be with all that repetitive, insulting, arrogant, disrespectful, 'SUBJECTIVE is truth', etc. I think the P-15 folks ought to ask him to zip it and quit making them look bad. They can sell their stuff on its own qualities without somebody being so rude to members and a manufacturer that we've stopped listening to P-15 comments and blocked him. BMW SELLS its own cars and NOT by tearing down AUDIS and vice versa. No disrespect intended despite his own blatant behavior. I just felt the obvious needed statement.

2) Why was this REDDI thread I was researching not preserved and the "REDDI vs. 10cc & P-15" hijack not moved to another thread? I didn't see a moderator comment so I wonder. I'm researching the REDDI because so many studio and live pros told me it may be what I'm looking for. There shouldn't be another party's gear being hawked as superior to the product I am researching.

I'm unfamiliar with the twelve step programme so I just Google'd it to try and find a funny come back... I never realised it was a Christian thing. It's a good thing most other religions aren't big on the drinking. Water to wine and all that
OK, really quick. One of the 12 steps is believing in a higher power but not necessarily Christian. Also, I believe it began with AA - Alcoholics Anonymous, but is now used for just about any addiction.

So, arai, are you looking at the REDDI as well?
