REDDI, I'm a bit confused

Gentlemen and Ladies,

We're all adults here. Music is not adversarial. At least it's not supposed to be.

To 10cc, Dave Hill and Primusfan1969, Thank you for your heartfelt input. 10cc, would you be so kind as to post some audio and video of you playing through the two boxes so that we could all hear it? While I would like to take your word for it, I don't know that I've heard your playing on anything because I only know your moniker which is the name of a band or the weight classification for you know.... All of you are welcome to do so, in fact.

In any event, it would be cool to hear the comparison of these (to me) distinctly different boxes.

Thanks for your time.

Stay groovy,

RH
I haven't heard a direct comparo by the same player using the same bass, but I have heard Azure Skies' demos of it (he's the builder...real name Josh Broughton) and it's definitely quite good. Credit where it's due.

Thank you RH.
I've been racking my melon on how to confer my disappointment in the way this thread has gone sideways in a bad way, without escalating the perceived infractions by/to certain individuals.
I have a genuine interest in the thread, if only to educate myself further regarding the topic.
C"mon people, we're bass aficionados. If someone has an issue, can we please sort it privately instead of ruining the public discussion for everyone. Please think before you Post Reply. It's a bass track, not world hunger or peace we're dealing with. Do NOT assume you have been slighted by someone who knows not what they infer. Take the high road. There's a better view from there.
RW.

Now that would be great. But I got something even better than that. I will send you my Broughton for you to use. Then you could compare the two yourself and it would be really fun if you could post blind sound clips of the two and let the folks judge for themselves. Seriously.

Or if Jimmy M is down I could send it to Florida for his analysis.

Wow
That’s big.
Regardless of anything that’s been said, the dude walks the talk and that’s pretty rare these days.

BTW, consider the possibility that they are both great and there’s no winner or loser!

I'm sure the quality of the recording alone from Reggie or Jimmy would be much more appreciated not to mention the talent level one of them could display. I'd really like to hear some double bass bowed solo:D.

The idea intrigues me but I'm leaving for two weeks on our band's yearly oldies cruises on Sunday, so it would have to wait till I get back. I do like Josh and I'm using his H and LPF pedals, though. I also gave him the idea to use NOS 6SL7's in the P-15.

You ain't gonna hear that out of me! :D I'm not anywhere near Reggie's caliber of awesome. I'm a good meat and potatoes player who can inject a little flash now and then. Reggie's a virtuoso. If Reggie accepts your offer, definitely send it to him before me.

Hi 10cc,

Thanks for your offer. I've not the time to test equipment. I'm also not interested in being responsible for someone else's gear. You posted that it was fantastic and better so young man, the burden of proof rests with you. Besides, it quells the naysayers about your playing and what you feel is the best tone, even though this post was penned by Primusfan1969 about the REDDI and its price tag versus value.

If you have time, I'm sure that it will be appreciated by everyone, including Primusfan1969 and Mr.Broughton.

Stay groovy,

RH

You make a good point, Reggie. I would bum out big if something happened to it under my watch. Ya, I'm sorry...I appreciate the offer too, but for that reason alone, I would have to decline.

How do we know that you are just trying to get Reggies address.. You may be one of those weirdo stalker types :roflmao:

Reggie let him send it to a PO Box and we will take photos of it in weird situations. Under a car jack, a door stop, maybe at the bottom of the pool..:laugh::laugh::whistle:

What, RH? You won't be a test mule; arranging and paying for studio time; performing as an artist; capturing, editing, and posting video; and in essence, producing someone's infomercial for a product not commercially distributed? And then, if you like it, endorsing it for someone's commercial gain? All of this for free, of course? Wow, who is surprised?

Product design, prototype development, and limited production are achievable by many garage, basement, and spare-room enthusiasts. Next steps of mass production, international electrical adaptation and certification, marketing, distribution, warrantying, return handling, liability, and profitability are matters entirely different. The REDDI is here and now, available for everyone, with all of the logistics solved. It is proven, road and studio tested by musicians and sound engineers. All of these attributes are included in the price, which in my mind, is of great, proven value.

I am sure the P15 is competent and efficient. It has received notable admiration in its maker's DIY thread. On some levels, to some people, it may be the greatest device of its kind. That's cool. Go with it. Enjoy and make great music! Best wishes for success to its maker, as well. He appears to have admirable skills and ability, as well as being quite personable.

As reflected in many comments above, the P15 doesn't solve all problems, or fill all needs. For example, I have no use for a 2-band preamp that drives a power amp. I also don't need EQ in a DI, leaving tone shaping to FOH or studio engineering. Also, the price of REDDI is related to value. It is reliable. It works great. Its company is customer service oriented. As a working musician the initial price was a bit steep. However, capitalized over years of use, its acquisition price becomes substantially less with each year of use. In this scenario, the P15 doesn't solve a price challenge for me.

I suspected that this thread was merely a setup for a shill infomercial for the P15, right from the start. This is likely untrue. The infomercial began with a passionate and right-hearted promotional hijack, a common phenomenon around here (no harm, no foul, well maybe fowl given some ruffled feathers).

If a certain party really wants to help the cause of the P15, why not send theirs to Talkbass member tombowlus of Bass Gear Magazine. If it is acceptable for their purposes, maybe they'd slice, dice, and dissect that device under their objective microscope, for all the world. It could be a nice P15 next step. However, the voice of the P15 maker is not represented in this thread, and he might want nothing to do with that.

That's funny. It wasn't until yesterday that I even knew who Reggie was.

Every musician who wants to use a quality tube DI should be able use a quality tube DI and shouldn't be denied based on income. All DI's should be free. And if you like your DI you can keep your DI.

Well I didn't mean it like I'm sure it sounded after reading it quoted. I do not keep up with bass players really. I got a few who I really like but I never see them mentioned here at all (like John Gustafson and Scott Walker) along with some other non bass playing artist.

Then again I've never been much into mainstream music. Dave Hill made a mention to me that he has his own signature Fender. Didn't know that either and I'm a big fan of Fender basses.

Never mind.
