Peter Montessi from A-Design / REDDI will be there with a stack of REDDI's and the NEW Ventura Preamp to demo. I think he may have some for sale too.. Not sure on that.

Oh yes. and this device... This is a rack unit that can be used in the studio or live with a power amp of your choice.
The Ventura...
Can be used with Instruments or MIC input on the rear Mic in.. You want boutique, this is a way to get there. IMHO.. Big time fan

I'm admitting defeat. Using the REDDI simultaneously as a preamp and a DI isn't a practical thing. I tried splitting the signal out of the REDDI with a Radial J2 mic splitter with one send going to FOH and the other to my amp using a Radial JCR reamper. The sound going to the amp was improved in the typical fat, clearly defined REDDI way but the sound going to FOH was very noticeably filtered and really lost the magic.

To be honest what the REDDI did going into the amp I can come very close to with a Barber Linden preamp. In the world of live stage sound where the law of diminishing returns increases exponentially past a certain point I'm calling it good enough with the Barber and just letting the REDDI do what it does.

Well, partially..:smug:

I tried another thing; please don't beat me up for this people/Peter!
To use the REDDI as a preamp, I tried to get more signal to drive my poweramps using a Lundahl high level stepup line input transformer (used in highend hifi equipment). Technically (and here is where I fall short) with an output impedance of 600 ohms (reddi) and an input impedance of 10K ohms (crown xti) I should get a 6 db increase in signal using the 1:4 stepup wiring and even more with the 1:8 stepup wiring. In both situations this was not the case and the reddi signal was impaired with noticeable less High frequency detail..

Soooo, I think I will give up as well...
At this moment this is my chain;

Bass (no effects because my reddi doesn't like them either) -> Reddi -> crown xti 2000 into 2 x 15 inch Eminence Kappalite 3015 LF (own non-ported design based on fearful)
-> Crown xti 1000 into 6,5" mid and 1" tweeter (all dsp crossover) -> link out to FOH.

This gives very nice results and since I use 4 channels of 2 poweramps for only one (kind of) fearful cab, I can get VERY loud with huge headroom.

For the techheads: The signal comes in from the reddi and goes to the input of one channel of the poweramp, then the link out of this channel feeds the input of the other channel then to one channel of the other power amp and to the last channel and finally the last "link out" is for the FOH.
Till now, I did not notice any degradation of the signal going to the FOH. It is possible to link a dozen of these poweramps for concerts so I should not expect signal degradation here.

Bottomline: I'm VERY happy with the bass sound to my rig and to the FOH.
But time will tell if I am again believing in the same lie again of getting this sweet signal to two places...:)

ps. There is always the possibility to buy another Reddi:p

Well half the fun is the journey, although I went down that road 6 months ago and came to the same conclusions. Would be hot to be able to do it, but now we know why Peter always did a simple thru-line for the 1/4" ;)

Last night I had a recording session; working on our first cd. But anyway, when I arrived at the studio, I plugged in the REDDI to warm up the tubes. The engineer, took a signal directly from my bass into the board, and it sounded pretty good. After about 10 minutes, I handed him the XLR cable coming from the REDDI, and said use this and unplug me from the board. I plugged my bass cable into the REDDI and started to play. You should have seen his reaction....priceless. The studio used an Avalon U5....until last night. :hyper:

Yes , I have seen the REDDI push many a U5 to the side this past year.

My days if lending friends gear is over. Nobody takes care of your gear like you. The last time I lent a friend of mine my amp, it came back with scratches and nicks, and of course he didn't know how it got there, and assumed they were there when he got it from me. Then, he liked what he heard so much, he kept calling me to use it again. Finally I had to put an end to it, which strained our relationship.
