REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

Fair enough, Jerry. I know Greg from Rocket Music still uses that NOS tube and loves it, and his tracks sound great.

Amroth, PM me if you would like to try one out. I have 3 of them and don't really need 3, and I'll sell it for what I paid ($35 + shipping). Wasn't really in the market to sell any but figured I'd offer since I had a couple spares.

What is your opinion of running already-recorded guitar DI tracks re-amped through the reddi again? Time saver or better to just re- record and get the mojo right from the start?

Btw have a mod idea to add another blue led in series with the other but have it sit inside the chassis, with blue light leaking from the side vents. Might not be bright enough for this application however :hiding:

I'm not understanding what you mean about running the 48v AFTER the REDDI.
You should never run the REDDI into a Pre-mp that has the phantom power on (48v). 2 things will happen...........
1, You will get distortion
2, You run the risk of doing damage to both units.

Re-amp.............sure no worries BUT that is a subjective call on your end.

Blue LED inside the box :cool:

Cool Pete. Thanks for the warning! Will be extra careful about phantom power in that case. Not a problem as I have an SM7b and Sm-57 to mess around with anyway.

Hey Jimmy, thanks for the congrats. Reading your numerous posts contributed to the good vibes I felt towards buying one for myself. I'll let you know about that tube soon once I decide how far I'll take the tube rolling. I actually have a Svetlana in my REDDI, spotted the logo when I opened mine:

Haha! Plus Svetlana is a more seductive name isn't it?

Hmmm let's see Sovtek is the dependable workhorse Russian dude who you have downed many a vodka with... but starting to grow weary of his company. In pops Svetlana, his gorgeous sister who you would much much rather hang out with, especially after all the vodka :D

Aha now you can't resist swapping in a Svetlana, even if Pete PM's you it warning that it actually sounds worse :D

It just so happened that we ran out of stock of the Sovteks in the middle of a run and our supplier was out as well. All he had was the Svetlanas..........(which we do use when the Sovteks are not in stock)
They are the same just a different manufacturer........but I'm sure someone would disagree.

These things happen sometimes......sorry.

Doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with the Svetlanas and there's certainly nothing wrong with the Sovteks, so no apology necessary...unless you want to apologize for making the best DI in the world!

You probably had something weird going on in the signal chain after the DI. The REDDI has enough output range to deal well with any system. What board were you going into?

I'm not an expert on those things at all and it belongs to my drummer. Its a rather large mixing board and two 12s on poles and a 18" sub. When i was going through the mains it was way gainy and had reverb from vocals in it. The gain on the REDDI was at about 10:00. I backed off from there but wasnt really satisfied. We tried just going through the sub and the tone was better but we couldnt get enough volume. :confused:

Didnt spend a whole lot of time on it honestly. Just went and grabbed the amp out of my car and used the REDDI silently recording.

Hi StrangerDanger,

I would have to agree with Greg and Jeff on this one.
It sounds like you have the REDDI going into one of the channels that happen to have the 48v on.
Take another look at the board you're using and see if there is a channel with no pre-amp and use that.
If you can not find a channel with no pre-amp then you can use the channel with pre BUT make sure the Phantom Power (48v) is off.

Just picked one of these up. All I can say is that if you are in the house, you need one of these. Don't spend another cent on your amp until you get a Reddi. I actually prefer whats coming our of the monitors and house to my own amp.
I use a ton of effects (at different times) and this thing plays well with all of them.
Well worth twice the price.

I still can't give up the amp for monitors or IEM's, as I'm not very happy about the tones I get in most monitors I get, plus I only like to hear my voice in the monitor, but I agree with you about the REDDI 100%!

I've been doing so much IEM playing lately (church an musical pit) that I actually am starting to prefer (or maybe it's just that I'm used to it) the sound of my basses (Roscoe's) through IEM's. I only have a Radial JDI but it still sounds good - if a little sterile.

It's like a cross between an amp and a DI or something. An amp with a perfectly placed mic. Amazing!
At first I was feeling kinda lazy about dragging this giant DI around but now I'm feeling lazy about my amp. They never let me turn it up loud enough on stage anyway.
Maybe I should get a smaller tube amp. Anyway, wrong thread for that. :)

I have debated changing from my Radial JDI to a REDDI as almost all my playing is via PA/IEM's. I am afraid that if I do that, my little SS Genz Benz combo (which I really like and use for small jazz gigs) will need to be replaced by either a small tube combo or a "PA" type powered cab that I can run the REDDI into to serve as a small gig rig.
