REDDI Tube DI Mega-thread-III

Thanks for joining in, Peter (may I call you "Peter"?).

Bass is wide open, REDDI gain is at 8 o'clock, board gain is just under unity, phantom power off, slider at unity, headphone gain at 10 o'clock.

Sorry Frtiz,

You can call me Fred if you'd like :D

Okay, let's try something real simple.

While the REDDI is in this same configuration just tap on the top of the REDDI. Do you hear a pinging sound?

If you don't than that's a good sign if you do then it sounds like the tube went south.

If the tube didn't go bad then let's try this please.

Take your same configuration BUT take the board out of play here. Plug into your powered monitors ( I hope you have a pair?) Keep your levels really low as to not blow your monitors.

Is it still fuzzy?

Please advise,

I'm wondering if the unit is properly set up to run on 120VAC. Check the fuse where the power cable plugs in. Maybe it is set for 220 VAC.

Thanks beans-on-toast!

If that was the case he would have to crank it to 11 to get any signal and the bright blue light would be dim.

Fritz,

You did purchase new correct?

If so who was the dealer here in the US please?

Thanks,

Yes, I did purchase new, from "Woodwinds and Brasswinds." I'm using a passive P Bass with Original 62 p'ups and AVRI tone circuit. I have an RMA, and will replace the unit once the refund has been processed.

Sorry Fritz,

I have no idea of who they are or how they got a unit.
But if they are taking it back cool.

Can you provide me with the serial number please?

Thanks so much,

Thanks so much,

Peter - FYI - they're owned by GC/Musician's Friend (just like Music123, Harmony Central, Music & Arts, etc., etc., etc.)

Greg,

I know you sell our gear and Sweetwater, VK, MFI and a few others.

I guess I will talk to our Distributor and see how this all plays out.

But for the most case the REDDI is a brick and to have this happen with a new unit is not right IMO.

Looks like I will have to contact MFI and sort this out with our Distributor.

Thanks Greg..............

In the meantime Fritz, I hope this doesn't discourage you about the REDDI and sorry you had to go thru this.
It could be just the tube went bad and that does happen. (But not often)

Too bad you can't just pop over to your local music store and get a 6N1P because that would be the first thing I'd suspect before something going wrong in the REDDI itself. Even if it tests well, it could still be wack.

The old unit is on its way back, and I should get a partial refund in a couple weeks (no, I'm not real impressed with that seller). I managed to free up a couple bucks to start a deal with Sweetwater, so I will have another one Tuesday. I'll let you know how it turns out.

What was your output setting on the REDDI.. Is it possible that you are overloading the input of the mixer?

I hope I won't be excessively castigated, but I got my REDDI today, and it's going back. Horrendous sound, nothing like what I've been hearing from clips here and elsewhere. Nothing but fuzzy distortion, like a heavily overdriven guitar.
