REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

so i was doing some shedding for tomorrows session, messing with the reddi. I threw on the headphones and ooooooooooooooooooh crap. Had to change my underwear. Now I hear what the hype about this thing is. Definitely smoothed out the harshness that my wick has that i can't stand at all. The highs are nice, almost bell like. The low end is just like how i like my woman, with lots of BOOTY. Nice.
Turns out its my crappy krk monitors that have that ugly mid bump and weird squishyness. Damn things don't do this magical red box justice.

No i'm curious to hear what the a-designs P1 sounds like. I'm tempted.

The A-Design P1 is super nice...

I think Reggie Hamilton uses the P1 on his bass rig with a Fender Poweramp into his Fender cab..
Also if you go to the A design site check out his other site Petes Place. http://www.petesplaceaudio.com/ He has a super sweet recreation on the Electrodyne pre amp and EQs..
whew. If i had the cash i would get the EQ in a heartbeat. those two together would make a nice bass rig to record with...
LA has his stuff everywhere..
Another great Pre is the Pacifica.. of which i think the P1 is sort of like... not sure..
I have the EM 500 GOLD.. just wonder what the difference is between the Gold and the P1 for bass

I LOVE my REDDI!!

I will say that my gigging rig is an aggie DB750 and I haven't had any issues with the REDDI and noise issues, but it is a newer unit as well. Could be they changed something recently?

Anywho, I get great results from every sound engineer who hears this thing. They all love the tone!

I'll second with the other guys on getting a good case though. I have one of the newer SKB cases that I foamed and it works out great! I love it!

$80-$90USD seems more like the going rate doesn't it? I have at least 10 of these things in various sizes from suitcase to deck of cards. I've paid full price for most of them just for the convenience of sizing them in person. I do recall getting a good price on one several years ago from a dive shop in Florida that was doing a blow out sale. I'd bet if you were patient you could get one for $60.....if you were patient.

when you say "holy cow what a tone," additional eq or plugins usually aren't necessary. just a little tone shaping to the track's final mix should be all that's needed, if that. i guess you could compress, but i've really soured on using compression for recording lately.

Agreed...not to mention that compression is overused anyway, at least IMO.

To respond to a couple questions.
I got the iM2306 Pelican case from B&H photo supply. It came shipped for $66.
Regarding the P-1. I spoke to Peter who hooked me up with a P-1 and 500HR rack. After listening to audio samples found through https://www.frontendaudio.com/Articles.asp?ID=171
and reading about bassists using mostly the Gold, I asked Peter which would be the best for my situation.
He basically said, if you're ONLY going to use the pre for bass, then get the Gold. BUT, if you're going to use it for other stuff as well, then get the P-1.
I'm lovin' the P-1. To me, the P-1, in comparison to the Gold, from the audio samples sounds like it has both a bit of upper-mid and high spank to it along with a great low mid fullness and punch. The Gold seems to have more mid-mid punch and a tad warmer sounding.
That's what I heard!
Here's a pic from a session I did a year and a half ago using the REDDI for the first time.
