REDDI Tube DI Mega Thread . Potential megathread that is.

Had the same issue with my MB SA450 and the RedDi :(
But I had a Lehle P-Split at hand as well.

Anytime, as much headache as this one small piece of gear has PREVENTED for me... A simple recommendation is the least i can do! Mega cool you even came across my post. Haha

Ps. The slant that the front of the psplit has is an IDENTICAL match to the REDDI! as if they were made for each other! TOO COOL. gotta look good on stage! Haha

Interesting. . . Reddi thru jack does not play well with all amplifiers?

According to posts above, certain amps like Aguilar and MarkBass need P-Split device when used with the Reddi, while other amps do not . . .

Is it a specific amp manufacturer design issue as the OP contends, or a Reddi issue?

Just curious. Lots of rave reviews for the device as a DI . . .

And some questions about the integrity of the signal from the Reddi's 1/4-inch thru jack to amplifier . . .

Any answers or comments?

I picked up a reddi a few days ago. Not a bad unit. So far from what i hear when i A/B it is that what it does is real subtle. To me it sounds like it adds a tiny bit of compression and bumps up the mids slightly. Not sure if it does anything to the low end, doesn't make anything bigger/fatter, my bass is already a bit obese. BUT, when i track with it thats when these little subtleties come through. It makes my hifi sounding warwick sound a little less hifi and the bump in the mid and slightly squished sound makes the bass sit in the mix better which i like. Especially since my wick can be a pain to fit in a mix sometimes.
Overall i'm starting to dig this little red box. Although i find the little blue light to be annoyingly bright. I stuck a few layers of post it notes over it for now.

Thats funny,
I dont notice any compression.. Well i run mostly passive vintage J or P basses and my Alleva Coppolo basses, mostly passive. sometime the sadowsky NYC with preamp on..
I would think that you would have to be running your EQ up real hi on your bass to get the REDDI tube circuit to compress.. I wonder if you are hearing is Low mid bump or are the other devices you used to giving you a low mid dip and you are not used to it.. good question.

Just a point of reference and not to toot my own horn, .. i record often with a Grammy winning engineer/ producer,He has ears of Gold.. And the thing that he notices about the REDDI is the deepness in the lows... Where the avalon , UA and other hi end boxes seem to roll off...

I have to agree. I dont have any compression happening over here either.
Love this little Red Box! Considering painting mine too. Hahaha "giving away all the secrets" as kirk mentioned!

Ding.....give that man a prize!!! Thank you and well put. "..the deepness in the lows." I totally agree. Some people, like myself, might use adjectives like fatter and wider to describe that sound that the engineer with Golden ears has described. Obviously, some people don't hear it that way. We all use different words to describe what we're hearing.

Yeah.. some people listen to what they can hear.... I try to listen to what i can hear and what i can feel.. because feeling is part of hearing.. To me sound is not only detected by the ears. IMO
And that is where the REDDI shines. It is a 3D experience... I honestly have used about every DI out there. From Passive, Active, Tube, FET, This transformer and that transformer, and the REDDI is really its own thing while maintaining what your bass actually sounds like...
Its hard to explain in words.. But it s as much a feel thing as it is what you hear. IMO

Perceived 'deepness in the lows' is often an artifact of transistor or tube distortion in harmonics higher than the fundamental. I bet the Avalon (like Grace and Earthworks stuff) do actually have better low-end extension by the textbook.

i owned a grace pre years ago.. very nice... but i have moved to the erickson montessi gear.. and real happy..

Well as we know from experience and real world gigging playing .. by the book is not always the best thing in real life...
If on paper the avalon is deeper , it certainly does not sound, feel or present itself that way in actual hands on real life situations.. just saying

You won't be thinking that way when the worst happens. Several years ago I had $2K worth of laser measuring tools in a Pelican case that went through a studio fire where a cinder-block wall collapsed on it. Then it sat in water 3 days before it was rescued. No moisture or smoke smell inside and the tools were in perfect working order. I'm still using those tools and that case today.

I have a REDDI on order and it will go into a Pelican. Money extremely well spent far as I'm concerned.

After much online research, I found the tightest fitting carrying case for the REDDI which is water tight, has a strong outer shell, is light, with sturdy latches and allows for over OR at least 1.25 inches of foam all around.
It's the Pelican Storm Case iM2306. Around $60.
My soundman at church, who loves my REDDI, flipped when he saw this case. Here are a couple pics.
I now trade off between using my REDDI or A-Designs P-1 or both!! They sound amazing through head phones.
