Hello everybody, Im making this thread so everyone can show off theyre refinished basses :) personally i love refinishing because it can make any bass your very own!

So i figure ill start the party off with my personal favorite and most recent :)

Hope this turns out to be a great thread. I have been doing a lot of research on refinishing guitars and I plan on doing a refinish of a 79 T-40 this winter. Simple white with a burgundy pearloid pick guard. Kind of a Fender look. Looking forward to pic's of other's and I will post from my project, pics from start to finish!

I hope it turns out great! ive always been interested in getting a t40 but i just dont think my shoulder could take the weight as far as gigging gos! :D

I have three re-fins, the 7-Up Green 'Bird is a '76, the Purple a '77 (both done thru Mike Lull) and the Seafoam Green an Orville (Gibson Japan) further modified with a two point bridge.

Those birds are fricken gorgeous :bassist:

this is going to sound very weird, because i have no idea who you are, but you atually have been an inspiration to me! Thunderbirds are my favorite basses and a few months ago i came across that very picture of your purple bird, and it inspired me too refinish a bird of my own! im currently in the process of saving up for one so i can refinish it orange :)

That sounds badass :P i saw one a while back ago alot like that, yellow with black hardware and it looked great! try and post pics as soon as your done im interested to see how that turns out :) And also thank you! the pictures dont do it much justice, the yellow on the body is a much more creamy off white color, the pickguard is pine green, and the purple is much brighter! and the neck is the same sea foam green that is the trim around the headstock :)

I have a few refins planned for this summer - wondering if anyone has seen or used carbon fiber at all? I've seen it on some Fender headstocks, but that's it, though the black burst around the edges makes me think a an entire body would look exceptional.

Thats one of the better hand done bursts ive ever seen! o especially like the staked knobs :bassist:

I've already got the material on order, but not genuine carbon fiber cloth - it's the stuff that is pre-made into adhesive sheets for mounting onto car hoods and such. It's still a woven material and not just a sign type vinyl, but I think it needs to be clear coated to prevent from wear in the predictable places.

I'll have enough for at least 2 basses, so the Goth TBird will likely be the first one to experiment with and then if I like it, I'm going to do an Aerodyne treatment on a PJ body, with the carbon fiber on the body and headstock with a black burst finish just inside the binding. Gonna be slick.

will it bend to countours and such? sounds like a fun project:bassist: I would imagine you probably wouldnt have to use clear coat, because if theyre made for cares it probably wont ware easily, and the texture would feel pretty cool too :)
