This is my first refinish on a MIM P/J:
This technically isn't a refinish, but I did paint this one:

Hella cool pickguard on the top one
adds almost a 3d effect! The bootom ones real cool too! you should make a red tort pickguard for it, now that would look sweet

Nice jobs. I'm curious to have your thoughts about that : I'm fed up with my Fender VI sunburst finish but the luthier still refuses to refinish it. I'd love to have it in C.A.Red , don't plan to sell it in the futur, and I'm ready to pay for that job but the guy just says : no way...
The thing is that he's one of the best luthier here and I can put my trust in him
So it's a little bit frustated...and I don't understand his point of view regarding the vintage instrument...

Damn! haha i love spectors
and i was going to keep this on the downlow, but i refinned my longhorn on the first page with 8 cans of spraypaint, a can of clearcoat and a sharpie

haha well i see where hes coming from in that he personally wouldnt want to do that to such a nice expensive guitar had HE owned it. I completely agree with you in that if your never going to sell it and dont care much of the value, than why bother trying keep it mint and pristine? i would try explaining too him one more time that you arent concerned with value, and if he wont, then find another luthier. Its his loss, cuz hes the one trying to make a living haha. and if you live near a big city it shouldnt be too hard to find a decent luthier. Good luck and keep me posted!
This is the 55-07 "test bass" that Lakland used to fit various CHI-sonic pickups etc.
here is the original look:
it had a few dings (minor) etc....not bad looking BUT I wanted something else.
after a trip to Master Refin artist/Luthier Pat Wilkins it looks like this:
Pat put a quilted maple top on it, gave it a stain finish and then a blue trans finish. he also painted the headstock.
Pat has done a few projects for me and I love his work...

Try looking at Status basses, most of them are carbon and graphite and incredibly light. Also one Mr John Entwistle was an endorsee so you know they gotta be good

Lovin the contrast between the blue, and the maple fretboard! and the matching headstock is rad

Thank you...I agree.....I am usually a rw board guy BUT this does look hot and it sounds great....

Believe it or not, I blend out the Piezo pickup completely and usually leave the EQ flat. But I don't like living life with one hand tied behind my back either...

It's the way Fender would have painted the Antigua if they wanted it to look good. That one's just bitchen.
