Reiner Amplification Megathread

Nice to see all the recent interest and support! There hasn’t been much demand over the past year or so which probably worked out for the better because its been a pretty brutal year (several years actually); but things are settled down now, and the design wheels have began spinning again whether I want them to or not! :)
There hasn’t been demand from me because I’m all set!!!

seriously. Look at the list of gear I’ve been thru. I haven’t even considered looking at another amp since I got these. GAS for amps is over. Nothing I’ve ever played matches the glory of a Reiner pre with an all tube power amp. Nirvana achieved.

Are these amps still being produced? Can't find a website and there has been no activity on the Facebook page since May of last year. I was wanting to buy one/have one built. But since there is no website and Facebook appears abandoned I have to way of contacting Reiner.

Anybody know anything?

Jonathan Reiner is @JGR here on TalkBass. In short, he's been on pause since before the pandemic due to some family issues, and the pandemic likely complicated things further. He gave a status update on the previous page of this thread, but he checks in from time to time and may provide further info.

Hey folks, yeah last year was crazy with losing both of my parents in a four month span, not to mention COVID...

I was going to update the FB page - we literally just relocated to Huntsville last week. So it's been busy getting the previous house for sale over the last year, then selling and moving, and starting a new job. We are building a new home but will be in an apt for most of this year, along with most of our stuff, but the end result will be worth it, and I should have a great new space set up next year.

Bump for a good dude who makes one heck of an amp; I'm surprised to see so little activity on this thread, although I'm sure that it's yet another sign of the challenging times that we all currently face.

As noted, Jonathan has had some family challenges along with the global ones, but I look forward to his return to production.

From the Gasoline thread: last month I went "full Reiner" for the first time in awhile!

VHF700, Gasoline, Wunderkab 1x12 (x2)

P.S. Aside from just a few occasions where I could drag out my big Berg NV610, I've been using Jonathan's cabs exclusively. I mostly use the Wunderkabs pictured above: lightweight neo drivers and defeatable tweets, and high power handling -- Jonathan says they can take everything the VHF700 dishes out, and I have verified this.

In addition, I have his sealed 2x12 with mid driver. My ears prefer it by just a bit over the Wunders, and it weighs less than 60 lbs and is compact for a 2x12 so it's not difficult to move, but I don't use it much mainly because it can't handle as much power as the WunderStack. Since resuming gigging this spring I've been playing outdoors, usually without FOH support, so I want to make sure I have extra oomph if I need it. Also, if I ever get back to indoor gigs, the Wunders give me the option of using just one kab, which I have done at small bars pre-covid.

Bottom line: we all know that Jonathan knows electronics, but he can also build killer enclosures, so don't sleep on 'em if he decides to put any into production.

I'm still hoping to own a Saturn V someday, but I'm content with my VHF700 for now. :woot:

saturn v has allowed the sell off of my amp stable. it just works. no need for outboard gear i've used with other heads.
sounds right just straight in.

A checking in post to see if @JGR has settled into the new homestead and what’s going on in his shop for 2022! JONATHAN - hope all is well. Any plans you can relay to the TB crowd for this year? I’m sure many of us have our own wish list.

Hey folks, the last year has been another one for the books for sure. Good news is family is all together and healthy. We ended up in a lawsuit with our homebuilder which is an ongoing mess, but we will prevail eventually. With that, we are still stuck in an apartment with everything in storage. We have been looking for houses the last couple of months but the market is tough as I am sure most of you are aware. Still hoping to get settled in the summer. A lot of stuff going on, but things are moving in the right direction.

In the meantime, I recently built a single speed Ti mountain bike which is keeping me occupied…
