Input mute. It looks closer to the gain knob than it is due to the washer - I originally had the input jack there but I swapped positions so the hole is oversized. It was challenging getting everything to fit, even more so when I added the fifth band of EQ, but I like the way the layout ended up, both aesthetically and functionally. Now that that is done, I need to get faceplates made. The brushed Al finish with black graphics should keep the current vibe - I dig black and silver.

Couple questions about the pending design ....

Will there be rack ears (example in photo of some I'm using now with a TecAmp Puma 900)? And can your amp be used in a vertical position (as shown with a 2U rack I'm using with the Puma and a Line 6 G50)? The latter is important because my Greenboy F210 and F110 cabs are too narrow to lay a rack horizontally on top. I've previously used a tube amp in a vertical position but wanted to confirm this wouldn't be an issue with yours. Thanks.

The cab is Greenboy Fearless 210 - lot of info here if you do a search. There is a WTB section on TB which would be a much more appropriate place to post than in this thread.

You probably already discussed this much ealier but, if you swapped a 12ax7 in for the au7, would it give you more chance for overdrive or, would it really mess up the response?

Being largely ignorant of tubes I did a quick google and found the following thread that suggests the answer could be "both":

FWIW my JGR Mk1 pre has a 12au7, but it can go from squeaky clean to dirty... even fuzzy, when I use an active bass. Of course that's not particularly relevant because the Micro will be designed to run cleaner.

Normally I'm not a fan of swapping tube types like this even though they will "work" since the gain stage isn't optimized, but I believe that this is a somewhat unique case due to the circuit design where you should get very good results. I tried it briefly, and meant to revisit but forgot, so I will when I get the final proto done.

The MK1 pre has different gain staging but as a point of comparison, it has a 12ax7 front end versus the 12au7 on the new design which is also a very different circuit overall. The 12au7 in the MK1 preamp is the final EQ and driver stages so it has less impact on gain and overdrive characteristics which are predominately determined by the preceding 12ax7's.

I don't think so - I think it will be another viable option and I'm glad you brought it up - I'll do a comparison when I get things up and running.

I've officially got this thing budgeted. When you put out the "give me money and I'll put you on the list" call, I'll be ready to go. Such a great looking and sounding amp. I haven't been this excited about an amp purchase since the release of the Demeter's latest, which this proceeded to bump out of the running.

There has been a lot of discussion about how to safely transport the amp. I'm going to recommend a really nice padded bag. This one is reasonably priced, high quality, and fits great - sides and top are snug, there's a strap to secure it, and just enough space in the backside for the cord. The way it folds up provides even more protection and there are several nicely sized pockets for cables, pedals, spare tubes, and tools.

That's pretty ideal for me, and very similar to what I've used for a Tecamp Puma1000, a Genz Benz Streamliner, and a GK MB800. I really like that kind of setup. Quick setup and tear down. Easy to throw over your shoulder at load in and out. Sufficient protection for what most people deal with in terms of gear transit.

That bag looks great. Any chance they can be made available for purchase with the amp/built into the price? With a bit of volume it's possible that you may be able to get them cheaper and even if not I would still find that a convenient way to purchase.

I'm a pro photographer. Lots of great padded cases in that arena. I have a padded backpack style bag from ThinkTank. My Demeter amp, pedals, cables, & accessories fit in it nicely. Even has a padded laptop sleeve. They were started maybe 10 years ago from some guys who left LowePro, which at the time was the leading camera bag company.

Mono is great stuff and has a couple that will work, as do Protec, Gator, and SKB. The Gigskinz I just got is the closest dimension wise, nicely made, and reasonably priced at $70.

There is also a Pelican with the pick foam that will work and isn't crazy expensive. Good to have choices.
