Change regarding the post I made previously on the DI - I did a lot of listening to various configurations through my mixer with both high quality headphones as well as feeding the signal from the board into a poweramp and cab. I ended up keeping the post EQ DI signal feed where it was, so it is still independent of the master volume. Made a couple of final tweaks to the DI circuitry - both the pre and post EQ DI signals really translate the tone and dynamics of the amp, so the FOH guys should be very happy!

Glad to hear! I've never like having my feed to the house linked to my on-stage output. Are you listening, Mesa?

I've just been getting parts in here and there, getting ready to work on the next four. Also been burning in #1, evaluating some NOS 12au7s, and playing with another iteration of a cab prototype which is very promising. ;)

While PowerCons are obviously superior---I worry about forgetting one or having one conk out on you. The thing about IEC's is that no matter where you go---there's always one around. Maybe I'm just incredibly stupid, but in the past 10 years, there are two times where my power cord didn't make it into my bag. It was a non-issue in both cases. Everybody has an IEC cord.

It is what it is I suppose. It was the same deal when speakons first came out. They are simple to make so I'd probably stash a spare somewhere. And you can leave it locked into the amp as well. I really like the quality/robustness of them. IEC's are pretty crummy in comparison, so I think it's a worthwhile trade.

Then do what I do----I have extra speakon cables and IEC cables in my bags, glove compartment, etc.. I have to admit to forgetting a cable at a gig and then opening my bag on the next gig----oops! It is true that if you forget the Speakon cable---while a few sound guys have extras most don't. So I guess you're right---not as much a difference between using a Speakon and PowerCon cable.

+1 I have had to go to "plan B" more than once when I neglected to bring the correct power cable for my Berg IP's. Granted, it was my fault for not bringing the right cable(s). I always bring backup instrument/speaker/power cables, but that does not help if it's an unusual style of cable.

As an old phart I was a little put off by those Speakon contraptions when they first arrived, but they make so much more sense. I've now accumulated a decent collection of Speakon cables, including banana/Speakon cables for my rack rigs.

I was actually annoyed when I saw that the new Fender Bassman and Ampeg V4B tube amps seem to have 1/4" speaker outputs only. What the hell??

The only good thing about IECs is standardization. I look forward to them being replaced by a locking connection of some kind. Might as well be Powercon.




P.S. I'm deliberately not saying anything about the Studio 1200 because I'm next in line and don't want to be a nag. ;)
