Rekindling some SWR love... Just sharing.

I love my old redface 350's ( i own two) bought a eden 550 and it didnt
come close to sounding as good i sold the 550. I see 350's on ebay
for 3 to 4 hundred bucks, one of the best bass amps of all time IMO.

Yes, thanks to the bashing SWR took at Talkbass and the advent of these smaller amps, larger SS amps like SWR have taken a tremendous beating on the used market. Good news for the buyer, bad news for people like me who took an $800 hit on their SM-500 on Ebay.

But in all honesty, now that I've gotten over the beating, I kind of see the point. SWR amps are pretty scooped and their cabs are often insanely bright, even without the tweeter. But up until Markbass came out, I honestly believed they were as close to tube sound as you could get in a hybrid or SS.

One man's loss is another man's gain - that's how ebay works.

I wouldn't pay full retail for any amp on earth - there are too many used ones for sale of all stripes (except the one in fashion du jour). Real depreciation on amps is negligible, marketing depreciation is very real.

Recently I've been looking at picking up an SM500 for fun (already got the 900) and have noticed prices on most SWR's ticking back up on ebay. Older used SM500's are going for what I paid for an SM900 (one man's gain....)

Real estate is down 30%+ but used SWR seems to be in the +return category again.

I'll take an unpopular and well priced SWR over hot marketing micro amp any day of the week.

I use a SWR Golliath 6x10, never really into their heads. But, I've yet to
A. Try one outside of Guitar Center and
B. Try anything PreFender.

Ducatiman, I ride a hot-rodded 1990 900SS...

S curve- chef- 1995 900SS here. carb mods, otherwise stock. runs great, just put nice gummy michelin pilots on....whoa. handles great, leans WAAAAAY over. great, sticky expensive tires. cool, you have good taste in both bikes and bass equipment.

back to bass:

i gotta say the HENRY 88 is the shizzle. correct me if i'm wrong , but the 8's seem to "fire" closer to stage. i'm comparing here to ampeg 8x10 which i think fills the room at a greater distance. maybe someone else can explain better. do you understand what i'm trying to say here? i'm just absolutely diggin the henry.
