Just to further traffic up the thread... as part of my own brand of rehab, I've been sitting here trying to play a little bit tonight. I haven't had any appetite at all for music (or food either, for that matter) since this cervical fusion surgery almost 6 weeks ago, but it's very slowly starting to come back. I still can't handle a strap over my shoulder or play standing up, but the Renaissance bass is one of my favorite go-to instruments to just put in a CD and play along. I've been back and forth between it, and my Martin OM-18 this evening. It's weird... like looking for a light switch. You know it's got to be there somewhere.

I seem to recall reading somewhere in RT's literature to expect about 200 hours of plug-n-play time from a fresh set of AA's. I'd guess the same for 9v. I'll look for that again.

I've played Model One's and really like them, but my Ren Deuce has a mag/piezo setup and sometimes, if I am feeling "expensive", I'll run the dual mono outputs to different channels on my Raven. It would be innerestin to do a head to head of an M1 and my deuce.
Yes, Mine was from the first run of 20 or so basses. Mag pickup only.
Yeppers, still got it. Must be a proto? early one, piezo-equipped bridge (has the exposed wire lead).
In a nutshell, blending the piezo/mag produces sound like a Hofner on steroids.
It’s unique in that it is walnut and I once spoke to “the man” who told me there weren’t many of these.

Somebody here was looking for one a while back.... @porterbass maybe? I think he was looking for a fretless though.
That's a nice bass. Does it have Rick's signature two-tone headstock? I know he did that little custom touch on a few walnut basses. Any trade ideas, or just sell outright?
Feel free to post it up here if you do decide to part with it... that's half the reason I started the thread in the first place!
I should really think this through as far as selling but in response I don’t think I’d be looking for a trade as I’m pretty set with the basses I have right now. That’s partially why this one isn’t getting played, also it’s not the right type of instrument for most of my gigs these days. Years ago I was doing a lot of backing up singer songwriters and this was great. These days it’s more electric.

Yes sir, I would only look at a fretless version. @RNG1 ...nice looking Ren! If you decide to sell it, I'm sure someone here on TB would buy it in a heartbeat. But do think it through first. I sold both my 4 and 5 string fretless Rens a few years ago and completely regret selling the fretless 4.
Appreciate that, if I was a fretless player I could easily see how these would be amazing just by the tone of mine. However as a fretted player I just don’t find myself using it in the situations I’m mostly in. I used it a fair amount years ago when I played in a band with dual singer/acoustic guitar players and drums but really haven’t used it in a band situation since. It’s also tricky because my wife got it for me as a gift...

I've always wanted to ask Rick what, if any story there was to those two-tone headstocks... guess I should just do that sometime. It's probably just Rick being Rick... incorporating something into a guitar he either never saw anybody else do and thought it looked cool, or conversly, saw some obscure 17th century builder do and thought it was cool. He's just got an eye for what works, both physically and aesthetically.
*Case in point, those Renaissance bridges... do a google image search on "Panormo Guitar". That's Rick Turner, a 150 year old design - reimagined.
