There are much better avenues to exhaust before you completely close the door. In fact, doing something like that potentially opens you to a libel suit.
I don't think any shop wants to be known as one that sues customers.

I say if its their fault, they should either touch up the spots they messed up or compensate you a little with some cash.
you could always be a d!**, pay with a credit card then dispute the charge.

I took my very nice and very expensive banjo to a shop to get it set up and have spikes installed and a set up. Apparently the guy didn't even do the set up, and drive two of the three spikes through the back of the neck (!!!) and split the double binding on the neck. He actually had the balls to call me, tell me it was ready for pickup and NEVER mentioned the damage. I got there just opened the case, looked at it, paid him, then took a closer look and kind of lost it! I asked him what the hell he did, and if he really though I wasn't going to notice. He refused to give me a refund and I ended up having to almost hire a lower, and wrote them several threatening letters. They finally ended up buying me a brand new neck (it was a double bound, heavily inlaid, flame maple neck) and giving me my money back. They would not pay to have the neck installed by another shop however, and instead offered to install the new neck. I told them that they were insane, cut my losses, too my banjo to a real shop, and am having the new neck installed as we speak.
I tried disputing a charge on a card for a situation very similar to this where a shop damaged an instrument. I was denied. Was told that the if the services were rendered that there was nothing I could do. THe damage was a totally different issue than the services charged for, and had to be disputed directly with the shop, a lawyer, etc., and was not a case for the fraud division of that particular credit card company.
Read a few posts back to see what damage I'm talking about.
