Retrospec Squeeze Box Reissue

Two things:

Retrospec has been telling people that they were about to reissue the Squeezebox for a few years now. In all seriousness, don't believe it until you see it for real.

The Squeezebox is based on principles very similar to the LA2A, but it is not a clone. I am partly to blame for people having that idea, because my original review of it proclaimed that it was an LA2A in stompbox form. I was mistaken. It is a great pedal, and among pedal-format devices it is one of the closest to the LA2A vibe, but it there are several technical differences between the guts of each.

I'm resurrecting this because I think it might actually be happening this week at AES in NYC. Happen to stumble upon the exhibitor list and saw Retrospec was attending. When I looked at their announcement for the show they reported the following:

Retrospec Audio / Ecstatic Electric

At long last! Retrospec Audio will be re-introducing The Squeezebox tube compressor! This legendary unit has long been out of production...until now! This incredible unit sets the standard for compression for the guitar-pedal format. The re-issue is made to the exacting standards of the original circuit, but has been updated with several convenient features, such as LED metering and an IEC power cord receptacle. Also on display from Retrospec will be their Juicebox tube D.I. box. Also on display will be products from The Electronaut Company, who will be displaying their new vari-mu compressor, as well as products from Sterling Modular, Rockruepel, and Roger Schult
Checked their website and no major launch info but it does say "Coming Fall 2103". Never believed their previous claims but with the AES copy, I'm thinking this is real.

Anyone attend the show? Or heard any news?

Hi,

I was at AES today as saw the phantom pedal in person. It does exist and was informed that they will be available in about 2 weeks. Now I have heard this before - so we will see. There were a few minor upgrades ... a small meter and detachable power chord. I was able to play a bass through it and it did sound good.... So we shall see. Street price was somewhere in the $700 range.

i got the reissue last week, seems to be as good as the original, with a few tweaks
love the zombie threads... especially in this case since I feel the Squeezebox doesn't get a lot of love here on TB. Awesome compressor, I love mine especially on ABG; works really well with my Breedlove and it looks so cool. I'm glad they added the meter, just four segments but way better then only having an 'over threshold' LED (or nothing at all). I don't have mine on a pedal board, since it's about the size of a board anyway.
