Return of Sunn?

Thanks John for your insight on the amp, I actually have a Aguilar AG700 that I use, I had a Sunn Beta Bass head back in 1983 w/ Sunn 215B cabinet and I only had it briefly cause I ended up getting a 1978 Ampeg SVT w/ 2 810 cabinets and that just RULED!!!!
De nada! My friend with the Model T had the 215B cab. It was sweet! SVT fridges rule, but who wants to lug them around? Hope to post some sound samples from tonights gig in the SUNN group on FB (if we dont get cancelled due to potential rain).

Hoping they keep the separate channel and master effects loops along with the footswitch. I’d be extremely interested in this product.

Interesting!

So, instead of delivering product to those already invested, Sunn is prototyping a new product with said funds? :eyebrow:

At least it is starting to look like something that would appeal to today's market, Just needs 500 watts or more to really gain interest.
With a small format and high power that would go down nice.
They should also make a pedal sized practice amp with both channels and up to 100 watts and they might take off.
If they release a compact version like that the people who have ordered the "new" original sized Sunn BETA amps might have a collector item on their hands in the future when all they sell are the smaller versions for the modern market.

Super cool. I still think I want a big one though. 😎

Definitely not ordering anything until I see more about that and whatever else they have coming over the next few months in the Beta line.

By now, I'd have to think the short answer is FMIC right-sized their risk/reward calculations of selling very expensive, relatively low powered amps invoking the name of a legacy brand to a very small potential customer base.

Plus, couple that process with the fallout online from 'influencers' who can torpedo this line overnight, I'd have hit the pause button too.

I was around in Sunn's heyday, and I see nothing in these initial offerings (especially at these power/price ranges) that tells me this is anything more than a 'boutique' level attempt, and so many of the electronic components from the originals simply don't exist any more.

I got to use and own a lot of Sunn equipment back in the day living close to the factory and knowing some people. I enjoyed have them and having access to them as they were good amps for a kid or John Entwistle or Felix Pappalardi to use to rock out with. I had used both the tube and solid-state models including the Model T.

Having said that, there is nothing there I would go back to or even crave to hear again. I guess what I was looking for, for my sound, wasn't dependent on a vintage tone or amp to provide it. I've been just as happy with a power amp and some non-descript preamp to drive it.

Could be I just don't know what I am doing.

🤣

The amp doesn't seem to exist yet. Isn't there some kind of smell in the air ?
Hmm? People are playing them and enjoying them.

No affiliation with Fender aside from licensing the name. But yeah, at this point they're basically boutique. Low-volume, handmade in the US, and with a wait-list lol. As for the tube amps, I don't think they've built one for sale yet. Only Betas are orderable.

Full disclosure: despite my previous comment, I caved and ordered a Beta Bass a week or so ago.

Did they give you an eta for the Beta?
