Rewiring a Cab?

I want to embrace the full potential of my old Peavey Mark IV. This means, a 2 Ohms speaker cabinet is required for it to run at its full 320 watts.

I just want to be entirely sure I'm not having a major brain fart here so I'm posting this thread: A cab with four 8 Ohm speakers at 80 watts each, all wired in parallel, would have a total impedance of 2 Ohms at 320 watts, right?

Yeah, but chances are your amp still puts out 200w at 8 ohms and it's enough to fart out those ''80w'' speakers anyway. So no real benefit but instead a better chance of destroying them.

120w @ 8 ohms, 210w @ 4 ohms, 300w @ 2 ohms.

I'm usually not for rewiring but in your case :
- A 4x10 is good enough to project well with 300W
- Going from 120 to 300 will make a fair difference
- The cab can handle it
I think it's worth it.

Just remember the amp will now be running a LOT hotter.

If you do this MARK THAT CAB VERY CLEARLY as 2 ohm. Even if it will only be you "ever" using it. You cant be 100% sure there wont eventually be an accident.
