Ha ha ha the NFL is a large money making machine you play by their rules or go home simple as that they tell you don't play live you don't play live. I am sure that they signed something as well so if you did grow some and plugged in you would be looking down the nose of some hire priced legal team that would chew you up and spit you out.

Doesn't matter so much the motives of RHCP or Bruno... and the fact they didn't get paid beyond expenses....

I imagine every year there is a team of lawyers examining how the show was promoted, whether the words "perform" or "sing" or "play" were used in any promotion by the NFL, its affiliate broadcasters, etc. as this is a huge business.... just the gate at the stadium was likely over $100 mil....plenty for a class action and partial refund....won't matter what RHCP signed.... the contract is between the attendee and the NFL.

I don't see why everyone's getting so hot and bothered over them lip syncing. From what I understand, they didn't get paid for this. If anything, it seems like they did it for fun. I sure would. And if you're so convinced that Flea's a sellout now, that he doesn't deserve to play bass, he doesn't deserve the fame he got from this, etc etc, why let his performance bother you? What damage does his lip syncing do to you? Why do you even care?

I have a hard time believing this. We are talking about an organization that pays it's talent a minimum of $400,000 a year (that might be the NHLPA agreement). They spent how many millions on that one day alone and the talent just couldn't be paid?

If you like football and entertainment, don't waste your time on the NFL. Here's what I mean:

Buddy of mine owned a house with an elevated deck that overlooked the Grove City (PA) College athletic field. His Friday evening parties would coincide with the Pop Warner football games...and these 7-9 year old kids used the whole 100 yards. I would wait for the snap at the line of scrimmage, wander off to use the restroom, grab a beer and nachos, chat with some friends and head back for the deck. Upon my return, the same play would still be in progress.

If this is the new standard, then why not pre-record the games to make sure that they are up to standard? Then they could prevent fans being disappointed by a blowout, and they could edit in some special effects to make the big game look more like a sports movie.

As a fifty year old dude -- one who is in above average shape, yet -- I doff my hat to Flea for the aerobic chops he displayed throughout the performance. He was leaping like a dervish for several minutes, yet like a champion racehorse, only seemed to gain power in the stretch.

Most of the haters on here, particularly those of Flea's age, would have broken an ankle, suffered cardiac arrest or simply buckled the stage with their girth had they been called to attempt something remotely akin to this performance.

I haven't bought a RHCP album since 1990, and I loathe football, so my natural bias is 'against'… But come on, people, seriously: credit where credit is due.

I have nothing against the Chilis, JW Fan, I just don't like where music is going. or should I say the perception of music? There is so much fakery and post-production going on anytime something is 'live' that people are forgetting what live music should even sound like. Then they stop going to concerts because they don't sound so perfect or whatever.

There's a documented negative effect that pornography has on a person's expectations. I believe that this same syndrome is occurring in the music world in the American Idull age.

I respect your observations and your point of view, but -- cutting to the punchline, COMPUTERS are the ultimate game-changer and virtually every human enterprise and endeavor i can think of has been rocked by their ascendancy, and must struggle to coexist if not integrate with the brainy buggers.

Music and particularly pop music is not immune from the wave of culture shock perpetuated by computers, and in fact it is pop's "job" to achieve a dialectical marriage if you will with the new technology, and take it to a new level.

There will always be a place for "traditionalists" like yourself who want to see a quartet of club rockers "do it for real," just as there will alway be an niche audience for, say, Dixieland jazz. But these are retro pursuits and about the backward glance, not the future.

In any case, the "old days" weren't always so great. I have some Doors bootlegs where they sound like the most shambolic novelty act on earth. Their producer, Paul Rothchild, said that their first official live album had over 1,000 edits on it. That it was entitled "Absolutely Live" is not only laughably ironic, but proof that if you print the legend, someone will subscribe.

Anyway, to each his own, and if your mission is to keep live, old-school rock alive, more power to you!
