RHCP's new track "Black Summer"

Hmm. Ask yourself this… If RHCP wasn't already famous, would that song get any notice?
Well, I can't even begin to count how many times I've heard people whine "Why isn't anyone making good rock music these days?"and this sounds better than anything I've heard in quite some time, so I'd have to say yes.
I'd say you're both right.
That's not a song that will blast in our memories, but in current mass sound it's good to get it.

Meh. It's alright. Chad and Flea sound awesome, great bass lines and tone. Guitar is too warbly for me, never liked that style. And Kiedis: Nice mullet, dude! And what's with "the derrrk side of the moon"? Was that really the best take?
To me, it's a step back to the Stadium Arcadium sound. I thought their two albums with Klinghoffer were a really good direction for the band, I liked them a lot. But now Frusciante drags them back down. Just my opinion of course.
Still looking forward to hearing the album. There hasn't been a Chili Peppers album on which I didn't enjoy at least a few tunes.

It's a grower, and I like it a lot. Flea's 61 Jazz (I'm guessing) sounds mighty.
It is fantastically well produced. Everything sounds full and rich and takes up just the right sonic space. It's been a while since I heard just a kit, bass and guitar together sound this good.

Sounds like the geezer band down the street wrote and recorded it in their garage. If that were a new song by a new band we would never hear it. In fact, if they were an unknown, and played that song on America's Got Talent, they would be buzzed off the stage.
It's working for me. I like how it's very jam-able. Good ol' rock without relying too heavily on post production and effects. I've had my tix to see them in LA this summer for months... I'm super down to see them jam this type of stuff live.

I really enjoyed "I'm with you" and "The Getaway" because honestly, Flea and Chad go crazy on their instruments. Josh is very minimalist. They really stand out as a result.
I'm certainly being creative in my expression of my feelings. But, honestly, the first couple of minutes are almost unbearable. The vocals are beyond weird all the way through. The music isn't horrible when the drums and bass kick in, I suppose. But nothing to get all excited about.
I'm not exaggerating one bit about America's Got Talent. If RHCP had never been famous, and showed up with that song on that show, the buzzers would go off before the drums start. The intro is painful for me.
Lmao. I like you, man. I always appreciate when someone can just say what they're thinking. Personally, I like it as a whole. Do I think it's the best thing RHCP has ever done? No. Does it kick the azz end out of most popular music right now? Probably, yeah!
Does it give me high hopes for better singles on the album? It definitely does, yeah.

Unfortunately, the answer is clear with much of today's music.
And for example, think back on the early days of MTV -- regardless if you enjoyed the music or not, that was nothing but a hook-rich field of ear worms... with much of it still getting airplay today.
