The dimensions of the pedal are 4.75" x 3.75", and I would bet you could make that work if the body was accommodating enough. Would you desolder the pots and run lead wires to new pots to be able to arrange things in a sane way?

Yeah, that was exactly what I was thinking, with the board mounted in a cavity somewhere in the upper bout where it is out of the way. I would have also desoldered the switch so it was turned on with a stereo jack like your typical preamp.

A few logical issues made me scrap the idea. First, my sansamp would suck a 9v down rather quickly, so using it as an on board pre, one would be changing batteries rather excessively. It was better suited for my One Spot pedal power. Secondly, I would be taking a preamp in pedal form that was useful for many different basses and making it a one bass on board pre.

A bit of time with a router and we have a headpiece pocket. Once I get the holes drilled for both securing the device, and for the strings to pass through the end of the neck I will be trimming the end of the head flush with a router and gluing on a nice walnut cap to match the walnut strip I will be gluing in at the bottom of the fingerboard to clean up the gap from when the fingerboard rode up during gluing. I did a rosewood cap on a previous headless build and loved the look of it, so it's being replicated here for an added touch of elegance and class.

Both @rondodunbar and Galadriel deserve no less.

Got my cardboard stock template all laid out for the hole needed to mount the ABM single string headless tuners at @rondodunbar's preferred .75" string spacing. Later I will be drilling this in to a piece of 1/4" MDF as a drilling template, and then use that template to locate where all of the tuners will need to be mounted on the body.

It's my opinion that Benjamin Franklin's saying "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.", while true in general, is incredibly applicable when it comes to drilling holes accurately. Twice so when trying to line up single string tuners.

It's with that mentality that I took the time to draw up an accurate template using Inkscape, and then transfer that to MDF to act as an accuracy guide for when I drill the holes for the ABM single string tuners into Galadriel. Once the holes were drilled, and then checked to make sure they were square, I attached the tuners to the newly created MDF template and verified that everything looks good. I will use the template at least twice on these builds, and who knows...perhaps someday it will be pulled out of the drawer for a future build.

I am very happy with the results, and tomorrow should see the bridges mounted if life does not choose to intervene.

The bridge holes are drilled, and the bridges mounted. I used some used strings to string her up and see where we stand, even though I have not yet installed the zero fret. The action is a bit high on the bass and treble side, and I may end up recessing the bridges by 1/16" or more.

Thanks guys! The question on my mind right now is whether to recess the bridges individually following the 7 1/4" radius for sleeker look, or whether to hog out the entire area. I am leaning towards individual recesses, but @rondodunbar has veto. ;)

I have been putzing around with her a bit today in between meetings and I am thinking I am going to leave the bridges alone and let @rondodunbar play around with it a bit first. I like an insanely low action that mwahs and buzzes, and it occurs to me that this is coloring my initial opinion on where we are at. It's easier to remove material than to put it back, so I am going to leave well enough alone for now. ;)

The zero fret slot is sawed, and I have started applying CA to the fingerboard. About 8 coats in I ran out of CA glue. :( I used some 000 steel wool after coat 5, and it's taking a bit longer than I expected to get the finish I am looking for, but things are looking nice. No pix until I get things finished up, but I am hoping I will have her done tomorrow.
