Man it looks fantastic....photo does not do it justice....

I must do a massive shout out to the bass centre in London. They were awesome in tracking this down for me. In little over a week they had found one and got it delivered nice one, can't recommend them enough! www.basscentre.com

Several of us changed avatars to a Jessica Alba pic when burk293474682010038r7ye839w let his supporting membership expire - it's kinda complicated. :D

When it was time to change back, I decided on a switch. I went for the new one because...
a) I didn't think the Glenn Hughes one worked that well at such a small size
b) my girlfriend painted the new pic
c) it fits in with my bass ape identity ;)

so how do you get on playing with a pick with the pick-up guard in place? it feels a bit weird to me right now and was already thinking about maybe taking it off...naturally my hand would be a couple inches closer to the bridge and I would dampen the strings sometimes when playing....but then I suppose this adds to the general clang!

yeah thanks all...it does look great...the fireglo for me was just a bit, well...for want of a better word "girly" so I went for mb

interestingly although noone lists mb as currently being available (even the ric site, cos I think mb was colour of the year in 2004) this bass was manufactured february 2006...maybe I just got lucky, and benefitted from a special order that someone didn't follow through on?....

As I'm sure you know, that pickup cover is purely cosmetic. It has nothing to do with hum shielding or anything. I left mine in place for a year (simply because it looked so nice!) before finally taking the plunge. Initially its absence felt really wierd, but I confess I now find it whole lot easier to play.

I'm one of the wierd few that actually prefers the p/u cover in place. For me it's a perfect place to rest my picking hand & puts me right in the "sweet spot". I've developed a left hand muting technique (when necessary) & I feel that they just look naked w/o the cover. I do have a 74 4001 that doesn't have a cover on it - it's been like that since I bought it in the 80s, but I'll be putting one one soon. (then again I've been saying that for almost 20 years!)

Also, Rickenbacker manufactures the Colors Of The Year for as long as it takes. Their factory gets so behind that even though they cut the order date off at a certain time, the actual manufacturing run goes as long as it takes to fulfill all of the orders.
If I remember correctly, Ben Hall from RIC said that the last Monty Brown rolled off the line very recently.

I got a question for you guys... I've only gotten a 4003 recently, and it was only just returned to me from the luthier, so i havent had that much play time on it yet.

the bridge pup cover's already been taken out as I just didnt get along with it, and IMO, the sweetspot of that bass is right over the bridge pup, so, off with it...

thing is... Im used to resting my thumb on the pickups, but that bridge pup's assembly is HUGE! lol, its not very confortable, it seems I have to stretch a lot more in order to play on the D & G Strings...

have any of you had this problem? how'd you get around it?
