They used a Schaller 3D on the 4004 and also the 4003S5.
(I prefer the stock Ric 4001/4003 bridge/tailpiece, though.)

Why?

The answer is because; I've no idea what this offers over a single-neck 5-string, other than for show.

I noticed that too. Is it possible they just used the 4 string pickups?

I was wondering if the string spacing was less than the 400S5, but it looks like the neck is wider.

I dig it. Fits the more is more aesthetic of Sleep's stage plot. I know there's a few Al uses the 5er on, so maybe they want to jam a couple tunes together and not have to stop to switch. Usually the 4 is C std and the 5er has been standard BEADG.

I think Al's going to get more use out of this bass with Om, since he uses several different tunings on their material. When Om tours again, he might have the 4 in C# standard, and the 5 down a half step in A#.

He's probably testing the doubleneck out on this tour to see how he likes it. "Leagues Beneath" is the only Sleep song in B standard/drop B as opposed to C standard, so he's not going to get much opportunity to use the 5 neck.

Al is a huge Rush fan too, so he might be channeling his inner Lee/Lifeson with this design.

As ridiculous, unnecessary, and over the top as that instrument is, as the owner of a 4003AC I think it's amazingly cool... And I'm not even a Sleep/Om fan. Not my thing, but I still know cool when I see it.

Hard pass. I have more back/shoulder/pinched nerve issues than the average 56 year old bassist.
I really can't see the point of a double neck unless one neck is fretted and the other is fretless.
I mean, this bass is really impressive from a visual standpoint. But my neck and shoulder throb just considering wearing it for a set...

Just out of curiosity, what drew you to the 4003AC if you're not a Sleep/Om fan?

Honestly I didn't even know who Al Cisneros was. I have a 4003SW which I really like, and I guess it was just that the AC was similar but different and unique in enough ways that I pulled the trigger. I think another factor - it was in the middle of pandemic induced isolation and I had too much time to rationalize the purchase.

I did give his music an honest listen once I became aware of him, I don't have a problem with it for what it is, but it's just not my thing.
