Played fine. I just had to give Firefox permission to run its Quicktime plug-in for some reason. Win 10. I like the sound, but can't say how Rick-ish it is.

Well there is the genuine Ric 4003W and 4003WS if you have $1500-1800 just lying around..... TonH's is probably better made than any massed produced bass though. I am going to have to make one of these, already kind of half-promised my Son I would when I finish my Jetglo 4001 build.
I decided to make guitar version of 4003w. It turned out that Rickenbacker did make guitars with the same bodyshape and headstock like the 4003 bass. That model was the 480/481.
So time to build a 480w ;-).
I started with a plank of maple which I cut in to 3 pieces and glued them together with walnut veneer in between.
I gets a quarter sawn look.
And this are the pieces of walnut for the wings:

So this weekend I had some time to work on the Rick guitar (480) again.
What I did is make the neck tapered with the band saw.
I also made an angle for the headstock (bandsaw and router):
Then I roughly cut out the two walnut wings. Together with the neck:
For the fretboard I used this nice piece of bird's eye maple:
Time for the template for the headstock.
I found several pictures on the internet that I could use.
And with some scaling, this is the one I am going to use.
Compared with the headstock for the bass I made, it is less wide and a little bit longer.

This is looking great Ton. I've been pondering a build in the other direction, a guitar shaped body used for bass, the 650d guitar shape. It would probably have to be a short scale to work proportionally unless I scaled it up.

Are you able to source walnut locally? The handful of local yards I have access to don't stock it, closest one a one hour drive.

I can't buy the walnut locally. I go to a yard 25 miles away from my home (45 minutes drive). They sell all kind of beautiful woods. I always take more wood home then I need ;-).

After 24 hrs I removed the clamps.
