John Hall's lawyers will be in touch with everyone shortly.

Is owning a copied bass a crime? I don't think it is in any sense of the word. Making new ones would most certainly be criminal, but the ones that are already out there are not contraband. The companies that were copying them ceased when they got the legal "no" but the ones they produced before that were not at the time illegal, so (unless I am missing some huge facet of copyright logic) there's no problem with owning one, or discussing them.

If you were just kidding, I apologize. I have always wondered why people think lawyers are going to contact internet posters because of their claims that they have a Ric copy, or their interest in discussing them.

Owning a copy of a Ric is not a crime (yet) but selling them on
is frowned upon by the Ric Corp and internet sales are often
stamped out as fast as Ric can type.

Ric fans also join in the witch hunt and are quick to point out
players of replicas and call them rude names!!

If Ric spent less time stopping sales, they could probably
flood the market with their own basses - ONLY JOKING!!

One of the above is a 70's replica made by John Birch.
I have been offered SILLY money for it.

I have the hots to a degree for a Rockinbetter 4001 in jetglo
finish that lives near me, but I know - without touching it - that
it will sound nothing at all like a Real Ric.

Not the actual one for sale, btw. ;)

Friday night I got my Hondo Ric copy up and running... replaced one of the tuning machines... Took the pickguard off and blasted the hell out of all the electrical stuff with cleaner... took out the deteriorated mute assemby (the foam is all corroded and the screws are bent)... Made sure the ground wire was in contact with the bridge... and voila! It works as good as when I bought it... Still has crappy microphonic pickups and cheap tuning machines etc. but I'm happy again! Someday I'll own a a real Ric; I think having this bass has made me want a real one more than I would've if I didn't have this bass...

I just found this place; I was seeking out a "Rickenfaker" bass, a.k.a. an imitation Rickenbacker 4001 bass.

I bought a Hondo copy for $25 at Salvation Army in 2000; It needed help. I reshot the body in Bahama Blue, reconditioned the pickguard, cleaned the electronics and pots, reassembled it, restringed it, redid the truss rod adjustment and promptly put a "Rickenfaker" sticker on the truss rod cover, in the original font. I loaned it to my niece...it was stolen from her. Some meanie has a nice Rickenfaker now! :crying: :bawl:

Now I'm disabled and have time to learn to play: But I was just so impressed with the body style because folks like Paul McCartney and Geddy Lee sport the real things. I'll probably never be able to justify owning a real Rickenbacker, being the amateur I am, so I seek out an imitation. I've looked everywhere...anywhere you can point me? Hit me back at [email protected] . Thanks in advance!

Oh, stuff and nonsense! You are disabled now and have all the time in the world to justify owning a real Ric....funny thing is, the more you play, the better you get!

If you have the means, go for the real thing baby!!!! hen practice enough to feel worthy enough to own it...after all that sentiment is all in your head anyway....no one here doesn't think you are not worthy, only you do.....
