Rickenbacker 4003 or Fender Jazz?

I met the bass player from Dawnny Iris, he called it a Rickenbawker, of course, he was
from the 'burgh. I don't know about Ahia 'n 'at, but some of yinz aht 'dere gawt
some weird accents 'n 'at.

As to slap. I've never been great at it. Jaco never slapped. When people ask me when I'm going to play a 5 string I tell them when I'm better than Squire, Jaco, Rutherford,Graham I'll step up to a 5. At my age it's doubtful

I've seen Donny Iris and the Cruisers at least 5 times back in the day. They warmed up for the Michael Stanley Band a couple of times here in NE Ohio(Akron area) and headlined a few times as well. Fun band to see live. We were definitely having a party.

So, so, so, soooooooooooooooooooo wrong. On both accounts.

Maybe you can't slap on a Rickenbacker, but this guy definitely can. I'd chock that up to your own (in)ability vs the design of the bass itself.

I still think it would've sounded better on a Jazz Bass.

I've never been to PA, but had friends from there, (Ohio as well). As a die hard
Steeler/Pirates/Penguins fan, naturally they liked me. We all saw him in AZ. in the 90's.
I told them my name was Donny Brown, just because I thought it was funny when they
called me Dawnny Brahn. You haven't lived until you watch a football game with five guys
from the 'burgh, and a married couple from Cincy. Between the debates about whether
or not chilli should include cinnamon, or sandwiches should have fries and slaw on them
it was a blast. The one thing they did agree on, they all hated Cleveland! Being the
contrarian I am, I almost wanted to break out the Blatz beer and some Milk Bones.
P.S. The Cinncinatti chilli rocked!

Perfect finish quality; not a dimple, bubble, or blemish to be found. Smoother than glass. Tight neck pocket, no overhang. No crap left in the routes. No shim needed on the neck. No stripped screwheads. Fret ends were beveled perfectly; no fret sprout whatsoever. Frets were highly polished; you couldn't feel or see any line in the finish where the binding and neck inlays were. Side dots perfectly placed. Action was as low as physically possible; no buzz. Required absolutely nothing out of the box. Edges of the bound fingerboard were expertly rounded just the right amount. The bridge was mounted perfectly straight; the fit and finish was just perfect at any price; you couldn't ask for better fit and finish on a Sadowsky or Fodera.

That's all compared to the Made in America Geddy? Wow.
Funny how Fender jacks the price of their US instruments and they're not even that far from the border where Fender Mexico is.

Isn't RICK-en BOCK-er the proper way to pronounce it? That is what I always thought. That's how I always said it. Maybe it's regional? I live in Ohio and I believe that is how most around here pronounce it... RICK-en BOCK-er. hmmm interesting.

I can't stand the RICK-in-BACK-er pronunciation. So grating. I intend no regionalism when I say this but it really rubs me the wrong way. The founder of the company was a German speaker from Switzerland, for Heaven's sake!

But he spelled it Rickenbacher, get with the times!

I love all three: Fanders, Rickenbockers, and Gebsons. Seriously though if you need to hear the correct pronunciation, call up Rickenbacker in CA and listen to the recording. It definitely has a short a, like in Scratch my Back.

My USA Geddy is fabulous . The build quality rivals custom shop. It's plays and sounds amazing .
I have ever played the Mexican or Japanese so I honestly can't compare them. But each bass needs to be judged on and individual basis.
Most say USA and Japan have more consistent build quality .
