Rickenbacker goes Ruby

Not digging that maple neck...and the horns or wings, whatever you call them on the 4003 look too small.
Nice color though.
Do they not still offer Burgandyglo?? That is the best 'red' for Rickenbackers. IMHO.

Burg has been gone for quite some time.
I think it was the nicest of the solid red finishes RIC has done, maybe DCM (the very limited edition Dark Cherry Metallic), but I never saw either in person.

The 4003 body looks to be cut to the 4004 spec in the last few years. Definitely much slimmer.
Personally I like it, but some prefer the older body style.

This new Ruby looks like it's a deep metallic like the Midnight Blue (MID) finish.
Very nice.

Ruby looks great with black trim.

I think the current 4003 has gone back to the same size body wings as the old 4001. The cutaways/horns got a bit fatter in the late 70s.

Yeah, I do prefer the more vintage look.
If they ever bring back the checkered binding, I'll have to buy another new bass.
I don't know what would be harder: picking the colour or coming up with the money!

I believe both John H and Ben H have an aversion to the more laborious checkered binding though.

I love the color but I was hoping for something more to be announced (vintage checkerbound model, 5 string, etc,).

Checker binding is just another aesthetic thing, though. I'd be totally down for a 5er OTOH.

I do love this new color, but it would probably take a fretless fingerboard as well to tempt me into buying one. Still I think this is a good move for RIC.

I think it's a beautiful colour. Unfortunaltely, over here their selling price seems to be determined by how easy they are to get hold of, so I reckon this one will be pretty pricey - if we get to see any at all that is!

In a recent video tour of the factory JH said something about greater than half of the instruments made going overseas... I think. I'll have to look it up again.

Damn I want a Rick so bad, I just can't stand finished fingerboards

Why? It's not like you can even feel it when you are playing. On a fretted instrument it really does nothing at all for the player, it basically just protects the fingerboard from dehydration and looks purdy.

I can definitely feel it. I found a great deal on a Midnight Blue Ric in a local shop last year, it had a fantastic tone, but I couldn't get past how the fingerboard felt.
