Dude, get a G&L! My main player is an ASAT. I think it's why I feel slighted by the ric. I spent under 6 for the ASAT, and 750 on my Ray, and, although they're used, they are killer examples of bass. The Ric I bought new, and I don't feel i got my moneys worth, whereas i've never doubted for a second the money on the ASAT. I've toyed with the idea of selling the ric a lot, but I know I'll want to try one again at some point. Plus, it's easily liquidated if I ever absolutely need to.

If you want one, by all means, get a Rickenbacker and try it out! They're one of the few basses that retain their value that well in the used market.

My take: If you get a good one and it sets up properly, there's nothing like it! My band mates continue to compliment me on my sound.

If you get one that is a bit off, you're done for. Once you get into their customer service department, and realize you're up a creek, the best solution is get rid of it as fast as possible, take your lumps, and get on with your life and with a different bass.

Couldn't I just use the shoddy rickenbacker as a paddle? ;)

Okay, so out of 100 new Rickenbackers how many would you guess are "good and will set up properly" and how many "are a bit off".
I think that is the real issue here.

Okay, this is great. Since you own three Rick's that are essentially the same except for the color you are the right person to ask...
Do these all play and sound the same? If not, how do they differ?

If I close my eyes I can't tell the difference between the Ruby Red
and the Jetglo in feel or sound. They both have flats. The MID still has the rounds on it so it's more growly. The fret boards are the biggest difference in aesthetics as they each are very different in looks but all feel the same. Thanks
