Rickenbackers

If I got a Ric today, I'd drop a 4 band Audere preamp in it and change out the bridge for the Hipshot unit. Preamp, just cuz I tend to favor a mid boost going into my overdrive, bridge cuz the stock unit is a real pain to intonate. Probably would pick-up a pair of Ric sized buckers or an RWRP set of pick-ups as well.

I don't understand those mindsets either - where precisely is your evidence for those people?

(Nobody here has said they hate you, BTW.)

Ya Talkbass is pretty cool ... the real hate is the fan boy web sites ... but here sometimes people come on and have extreme points of view and intolerance for different opinions ...

I have mainly been complaining about the treatment I got elsewhere ...

...but not here.

I'm on the Ric FB page too (as you know) and at worst I think things were 50/50.

I've been on one site (a Hi-Fi one) where I blocked so many people for getting personal (and even called one keyboard warrior out for a face to face!) that I decided to stop going there. I still occasionally drop in for a look and the same conversations are still going on, but I don't tend to log in and participate.

Ya the thing of Facebook ... the one guy right of the bat starts calling everything "butchering" and he then goes on to make ignorant statements about pot values, and active and passive pickups and make incorrect assumptions about the rods ... etc ... and then everybody piles on because he is some sort of "expert" ... what the heck ... I really feel bad for the original owner of that bass who also takes a lot of criticism for fixing his bass ...

Drumming up business for his mod shop?

Nope ... I only do a few per year ... I have a full time job ... and because I don't charge much I don't really make a lot per hour ... actually when I do the math I could probably make more money mowing lawns

The Audere preamps are amazing ... I use the 4 band ... boost low mids to get the Fender tone, boost high mids to get the Rickenbacker tone, scoop mids and boost treble and bass to get the Stingray tone. A very versatile preamp.

I have a 4 band in one of my T-40s and it's just great. T-40 seems to have a lot of low mids (400hz-ish) which I cut a bit, while boosting the 1k and giving the treble a slight bump as well. Changes the whole vibe of a T-40. I am running the preamp at 18v. Originally ran it on 9v, but ended up boosting that to 18v to give additional headroom for the T-40 pups, as they seem to be pretty high output.

Also installed the same 4 band unit into an Ibanez SRX400 to replace the Phat-II atrocity that came installed in it. Really made that bass come alive.

Found an older pic of my herd.

It's funny, the first few Rics I owned back in the 70's, I didn't mod at all. Lately, it seems I mod everything, or even build from scratch. It's the modern world.

I was that way too ...

But I don't build basses from scratch like you do ...

Beautiful basses!!!

That white 5er is calling my name

Audere is my favorite preamp

Man, whatever you do, don't get the John Deere fanboys on your case.

Here's a (bad) joke.

My wife ran away with a tractor salesman. I just read her John Deere letter...
