Rics with maple???

AFAIK, Lemmy has never used a fake one, though he has modified almost all of the ones he's owned to such a degree that it makes me cringe to think about it too much (though some look pretty cool).

His special edition basses sure are nice, though.

I thought his Jetglo one was stock?

Heck, I think he had the right idea, make 'em work his way!:bassist:

Hehehe, a ricky witha thunderbird pickup, also gotta love he put the bridge cover on his sig, even though most bassists were taking them off!:bassist:

Look at Cliff Burton, everyone used to talk about his awesome Ricky tone, yet he had a Gibson mudbucker at the neck and a fender J pickup at the bridge!

Lemmy used this customized 4001 for a long time:

If I could have one Ricky...

I dunno, I mostly like what he did to them. I particulary like this one (can't find a bigger pic @tm):

@darkstrike: never heard of Lemmy using a J-pup on his basses. I doubt he ever even used the bridge pup. And I don't think he had a Jetglo bass (just the one time he used it for that TV appearance with Girlschool). However, the white one (with the black trim) and the Mapleglo one seem pretty stock.

The greatest part is that there's not even a pickup under that cover. It's just a dummy cover & surround to use as a handrest.

It's weird how often the pickups in Rics can be replaced they'll still sound like Rics. Of course, the jazz pickup is one of the closer ones in sounds to a Ric single coil.

Course, if you're never going to sell an instrument, there's not much reason not to mod it if it will make it better for you.

Lol not nice mister I'm gunna flametid you, now where is that button?

*Passes out drunk*
I don't even know what "flametid" is, but you'll loose!:bassist:

Exactly, on all counts!
Too many people think modding Ric's is sacrilige, but if you wanna, its your bass, I'd love to try both a T-Birded one, and a Burton style modded one.

Certain, completely irreversible mods make me kinda iffy, but dropping in a J-bass pickup and a mudbucker isn't that bad. The latter would probably require some in the neck pickup cavity, but if you changed it back, it would be covered by the pickguard anyway.

A more serious mod, to me is dropping in a P-bass pickup. It's such a different shape from the stock pickup that it requires really extensive routing.

Of course, I'm doing the exact opposite thing to my Peavey, which came with a P-bass pickup.

I'm never too worried, unless I don't like the bass and want to keep resale value.
What's going in the Peavey?
