Rig advice

to reach the full potential of whatever head I get. I am trying like hell to absorb a lifetime of electrical knowledge through posts on here and elsewhere to understand what I need and where I need it. Getting a combo amp would have been a LOT easier but I think the split rig is the way to go. This is stuff I probably need to know.

In my non-rig building mindset an 800w cab should be paired with an 800w amp with the same impedance to give me the maximum headroom and cleanest sound. 1:1 seems logical so it's probably wrong. I know the cabinet can't really handle 800w and I know 200-250w can power the cab (it's what's on it now) but I also don't feel very good about the idea of powering it for a gig with that setup. Oh...the setup...

I currently have the Acoustic b450 which is 450w @ 4 ohms. If I add an extension it turns in to a b600 which is 600w @ 2 ohms. I know this can be done at lower volumes without burning stuff up and it may be ok at higher volumes but I would rather just get the gear I need to properly power the cab and ditch the b450.

They won't, you check your axe in at the front, they write the s/n down and you're good to go.

I still disagree. My current amp sounds amazing with my active basses, but not so much with my Fender. If I hadn't taken my basses in I would not have known that. It did make the choice more difficult, but I made an informed choice. Plus there is the outside chance that something I pull off the wall might be better than mine, especially a Fender, and I would wind up with something that doesn't work. Too each his own, but in my opinion it's a no-brainer to try out rigs with your bass.

I understand and I probably could have but I chose the route of using a bass that I can not afford with a head that I don't own. :p That Musicman sounds awesome through a LMT 800 in to that cab!

That's not the issue...the issue is being able to plug it in, play with it and hear it before buying it. I don't like risking it. Not with that much money On the line. $750US is like $1,000CAD according to magazine prices... :D

our money is worth more at the moment I believe, but you have a point...I just made a thoroughly researched decision and was amply paid off..this particular rig is so versatile that unless you are a died in the wool ampeg BIG TUBE AMP fan, or have a crappy guitar and cab, it's hard to go wrong with it.check out this video...

I think everyone's currency is more valuable at the moment but that's a whole different forum discussion. I'll check it out, thanks!
