Rig Rundown: Tim Commerford

Not really. I've just had several run ins with some of those guys while working with other bands and didn't have much positive to say about them other than RATM put on a helluva live show. I've heard second hand stories of the infighting between members of RATM and have heard multiple reasons as to why they broke up but thats really all just speculation.
To prove I'm not completely full of it I'll post a video of the Inside Out reunion, the only one that I'm aware of from 1993. About halfway through Zach jumps into the crowd and starts surfing. The guy that surfs up to him, grabs him, and sings along is me

I find it interesting that first you call him a space cadet, then you "point out his tinfoil hat", then you reinforce that he IS a space cadet. Then you call him a jerk when you see him "stage" a fight with his drummer. The best part is that you came here to talk about him negatively, even tho he's likely still in your first degree or two of separation.
But you still respect him as a musician.

I didn't come in here to talk about him negatively. I understand you are apparently a big enough fan that you can't be objective about him. There are lots of talented jerks out there though.
Honestly, I fail to see the point of your post. I've cited him as a big influence on me personally and I've been consistent in my criticisms. It's okay to separate the art from the person.
I've demonstrated my objective approach to Tim, and pretty much most other things.

When you look at wakrat video "knuckelhead" he seems to be using the old ratm board with the double wah setup. And looking at older pictures of his board, it's mostly the same. Different compressors here and there, double wah, fear this, some different distortions(that might not even be connected), a bunch of switch boxes and his 2-3 amps. Looks like he is a set and forget guy and wouldn't be surprised if his por-board is pretty much the same.
All the ******** conspiracy theories aside, I love the communist theme for their stage shows.

Rage wouldn't have existed without the political part though. Zach has been an activist forever and it's come through his music since Inside Out. I know Tom and Tim are both politically active as well and have been for a very long time. It was that passion that led to that music. Without the message they would have been lumped in with all the other (c)rap metal of the 90's.
Ironic that they are raging against the machine that allows them the freedom to express said rage.

Seriously though I respect the role they played in music and their political activism. I didn't always agree with their stance but I can respect that they took that stance.
Well no, it's not like the baseline state of human existence is some kind of fascist dictatorship and the US is some kind of transcendent haven because of our government.
They're raging against the crazy idea that money really runs the show (it is called capitalism, after all) not the puppets we see on TV and change out every few years and accept that as freedom.
Funny how anyone who doesn't accept or even challenges the picture of reality painted by the media is automatically dubbed a conspiracy nut/space cadet.
We live in the greatest country on earth. If they are so concerned, why don't they speak out against the many real atrocities against freedom and humanity that go on. Like in communist countries, the like of which they glamorize for their stage shows. Where thanks to capitalism they make a ton of money.
And there is a huge difference in challenging the reality portrayed by the media and reality itself.

Certainly not. But acknowledging and praising the tremendous progress we've made would be nice, once in awhile

I'll just say that throughout history there have been many nations that considered themselves the "greatest on earth" that produced countless innovations, technological or societal, which still impact us today. None of them are around anymore, despite their pompous sense of self-importance and superiority.
Yeah, we're so advanced that pro athletes are swimming in cash but scientists are always under the threat of budget cuts. At least we have our priorities straight, that's a good sign.

I finally watched that video yesterday. He said his distorion pedal started as a modded wah and he needs a boost pedal to goose it some more.
I suspect to see a boosted wah pedal on the market in the near future.
I doubt he needs the money but I wonder why a big company hasn't paid for the rights to build them.
All of us fan boys would hop in line.

As established as he/RATM are, it's not like the whole Justin Chancellor/Bass Whammy thing. Look at how much people were paying for a Bass Whammy, and look at how long it took DigiTech to do the reissue/revamp.
It's a shame that more bass guys aren't paying attention to Tim as a source of dirt inspiration, given how passionate he seems to be about it.
It could also be that he has been approached but declined the deal - he did say that the pedal is kind of like a secret weapon and won't talk too much about it. Personally, that's cool enough for me. More unique secret weapons of tone
