I was born in '55, and was a kid with big ears in the 60's, when I learned there WAS no Santa Claus: i.e., so many of the hit singles weren't played by the cool kids on the album cover. So I learned to read the credits (IF there were any, a lot of producer/managers wanted to maintain the illusion that they did play on the recordings) and I learned about the Wrecking Crew, the Funk Brothers, the Swampers, the MG's and the BarKays. And of course JO figured heavily in those discoveries. I always think that it was so very lucky for us all that all of these serious, accomplished players took all those 'day job dates' playing those little rock and roll records to pay the bills. And they're all passing, as time moves along, Leon Russell, Glen Campbell, and now Osborne. He was a powerful inspiration, and like Carol Kaye and so many others from that time, an endless and timeless education for me.
My very best to his family, and God Rest Joe Osborne. Thank You for teaching me to read the credits, and listen behind the vocalist to where the rubber met the road, down in the engine room where I learned what turned the propeller.
