I'm not a Slipknot fan and offered little sympathy when Paul Gray died from drug use. I'm a *huge* AIC fan, and still offer little sympathy for self-inflicted death.

I don't mean to be "that guy", but I think we FAR too often overlook the horrible decisions these people make that lead to their demise. Starr got handed the ultimate consequence for his decision to continue to abuse substances.

As someone with a Masters in Counseling and years of D&A treatment as a therapist under his belt, I think many people are too busy enabling the behaviors, therefore making it much more difficult than it should be. Just sayin'.

It sucks that it happened but you would think that with all the great musicians who have suffered drug related deaths that people would know better.
I have several former friends that got into drugs. Sometimes I wonder where I would be if I hadn't made the decision to distance myself from them.

I don't think he is oversimplifying it. Substance abuse is not a disease you contract, or a germ or virus you accidently get. it is a conscious choice period. I have my vices, but have always aired on the legal side. I have never even thought of putting a needle in my arm, smoking something addictive, or putting anything that was known to screw you up in my system.

I like others mourn his passing and send my deepest sympathy to his family, as all deaths are a great loss. But I have to also agree that these self-created and inflicted addictions and abuses should not be just dismissed nor shoulld they get a pass because someone famous passes.

R.I.P. All the young guys and gals here on TB, take note. This is not how you wish to be remembered.

Your personal opinion, because that's all it is, disagrees with the American Medical Association, and just about every medical and psychological body there is as far as what addiction is or is not. So yea, you are wrong.

So that's great you have anointed yourself a medical professional, but you are just perpetuating the ignorance and cliches of people who stay uneducated and uniformed about addiction.

I guess like a lot of things on talk bass, a lot of folks who dont know anything about a topic but think they do just talk out of their ass about it as if they are an authority on it.

I don't get the vibe that he's "anointed" himself by speaking his opinion....

You obviously disagree...(and though I could be wrong)....I don't believe his opinions are directly targeted at you, and finally...(sticking up for someone I don't know..)....I never read "authority" in his speak...only self respect and strength of character......
